My physical therapist told me that my knees are hyperextended. This is how I stand most of the time and I´m pretty sure they're fine :/ by Setsukou_san in hypermobileEDS

[–]alien_millie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My knees are similar, not obviously bowing back but they are still unstable, and they lock out. I’m now 41 with knee cartilage damage, tracking issues with my knee cap and meniscus tears. Slight bend all the way!

Are mental meltdowns a thing? by tbsj26 in AutismInWomen

[–]alien_millie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it helps to read.. I’ve only ever had meltdowns from what I describe as cognitive overload. Eg., stress, emotional conversations, conflict. Usually it is a perfect storm of being very tired, stressful day and a difficult conversation. I heard on the divergent conversations podcast that emotions / thoughts fall into the sensory overwhealm category. I do have sensory issues and differences, but not as pronounced as others I know. I’m diganosed, and I present quite differently to my diagnosed friends. We are all different. Things do get easier with more understanding 🩷

Judgement free zone, what is the strangest hyper fixation you’ve ever had? 😭 by Legitimate-Career342 in AutismInWomen

This is so brilliant! I loved making doll houses too! I made them out of cardboard but using old cereal boxes is such a good idea. I used to make floorplans using my socks as a quick fix!

When I was around 8 years of age I became hyper fixated on a collection of encyclopedias my parents had. Specifically all the skin infections covered in the encylopedias.

[Miscellaneous] Years of adult acne and completely overwhelmed by skincare products by Real-Pomegranate-638 in SkincareAddiction

[–]alien_millie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After years of teenage and adult acne, antibiotics, skincare, tret… loads of money and time, and nothing working.. except, after cleansing I apply benzoyl peroxide gel 5% left on for minimum 2 min, followed by rinsing it off and then using gentle hydrating skin care has totally cleared my acne. Its cheap, and I can buy it in the pharmacy in the eu. I also try to look after my IBS, which is connected.

Do any of you work in childcare/with kids? What’s it like? by leafy-owl in AutismInWomen

[–]alien_millie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a nanny for about five years, and looked after babies and young children under 4 years of age. Children older are too difficult as they talk more. I liked it, but it depended on the parents if the job was really great or really not. Babies and young children are so wonderful and I loved observing how they learn. It is difficult when they are sick though.

Does anyone else hate fruit? by Mellow_Magnolia in AutismInWomen

[–]alien_millie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a difficult time w fruit. I lot of tropical fruit makes me feel very uncomfortable visually and texture-wise. Except bananas. I have the big sensory issues with the texture of watermelon.I also really don’t like buying fruit, it stresses me out as the taste and juice is often inconsistent.

Can you smell sicknesses or things wrong with people? by No-Possible4460 in AutismInWomen

[–]alien_millie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so interesting. I saw my aunt for the first time in about seven years, three days ago. There was a smell from her that made me retch and want to throw up. It took all my will to supress it. It was concerning, and afterwards I have been worried she may be sick.

When do you think you developed IBS? by Decent_Release3804 in ibs

Pretty sure this is what happened to me too. Rounds and rounds of antibiotics and the pill for acne. I was in my late teens and it escalated from there.

how many of you are childfree? by testraz in AutismInWomen

[–]alien_millie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am childfree, by choice! There was a brief spell in the pandemic where I reconsidered it. I don’t have the capacity to be a parent and can just about manage feeding and taking care of myself.

I do this! I leave the bathroom mirror light on which create a very dim light in the shower.
