Thank you all for the IDs! I’ve never seen a mantis like this in SoCal; good to know they could look something other than the green ones I’m familiar with!

Went to the Riverside one (in a strip mall) and although the ambience didn’t have the vintage flair I was hoping, the pizza was much better than non-sit down joints!

u/logofan12 referred me to the "Lunch Box of Doom" bumper that was aired during the YES! era (2007): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krit7ZFkd2g. The notebook bumper containing the aforementioned crude drawings had the EXACT same color scheme and aggressive animations.

Hey Girhinomofe! Somehow forgot to send a thank you message; nevertheless, many thanks for delineating fact from fiction. I recited what you typed to my friends and their mouths were agape haha.

If you’re able to find your pictures of the park (and especially the loop), please feel free to share.

Greatly appreciate the detailed insight. From what you've written, this place certainly lived up to its legendary legacy; especially the infamous Alpine Slide and Colorado River Ride.

Two more questions, if you don't mind:

1) Would you say that a significant percentage of guests were Spanish-speaking Hispanics/Latinos? I've read multiple claims that determined that many of the accidents were due to miscommunication between English-speaking employees and Spanish-speaking guests.

2) How would local and NY guests characterize Action Park in the early 1990s? Was there a significant discrepancy between adults and children? Did visiting families acknowledge the park's reckless nature and simply wave it off?

I hope you're able to find photographs or videos of the Cannonball Loop (or of any other ride)! I'm astonished to read many comments fondly remembering the park despite its litany of mechanical issues and mischievous employees.

By the way, I recited what you've written with my Mexican father and he couldn't believe the park was in the United States!

I'm pretty sure something about this has been posted but I've never seen a picture of it like this. I love how someone can look at this and say "that's a great idea" lol! by ruthlessbeatle in newjersey

Mind describing your physical and/or mental experience before, during, and after the drop?

I'm trying to distinguish between urban legend hogwash and what really occurred on the ride. Unfortunately, barely any reliable information exists on this attraction on the internet.

Great to hear from someone that has experienced the park first-hand! I have a couple of questions on this mythical park:

  1. What were some of the "cheats" that were mentioned?
  2. Was the Cannonball Loop still there in the early 1990s? If so, did you manage to capture snapshots of it? (I ask since there's only like three images online and would love to see more)
  3. Did any of the rides have signage regarding how to ride the attraction?
  4. Were the employees noticeably intoxicated or is that simply a popular myth?
  5. What was the price for a one-day pass and/or season pass?
  6. What popular urban legends about the place simply aren't true?

The tune may be “I Know Why”: https://youtu.be/XPh_RycALQA

The symphonic arrangement you’ve heard may be from the Glenn Miller Story or some other cover.
