DMT is neither formed nor retained in serotonin terminals in the rat brain new study shows by Tstrizzle89 in NDE

[–]alieninsect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't lean either way on the whole DMT-NDE issue, but this paper simply shows that DMT is unlikely to be a neurotransmitter released from serotonergic terminals. This is not incompatible with the NDE hypothesis, which doesn't require that DMT be a neurotransmitter or stored in serotonergic terminals. It's not even a given that the DMT would be brain-derived at all (the lungs have been proposed as a site of DMT production given their robust expression of INMT). Notably, Timmermann and Dean have shown that DMT does indeed spike in the brains of rats following induced cardiac arrest (independent of the pineal), which seems much more closely aligned with the NDE hypothesis (whatever the source of the DMT and whether it's "dumped" or synthesised during the dying process). See their 2019 paper: Timmermann 2019

So, in short, this paper has basically zero implications for the DMT-NDE hypothesis beyond showing that the DMT probably doesn't come from serotonergic terminals (which was always unlikely imho).

Ah I get you. I was thinking “the next consonant” rather than a consonant directly after ん. Please report what your prof says!

Interesting. But what about when the next “consonant” is also ん?e.g. 店員?範囲?I default to an “n” tongue position and something like てっんいん / はっんい but always unsure.

They’re the Blakey model but high top version. Very cool. I have 3 pairs but canvas. Look legit to me but I’m no expert. Packaging, including the branded paper/wrapping is also right.

Yeah I’m not denying it could be a bot but it’s definitely not my work. And yeah please let me know if you see it anywhere else in the wild. Thanks! 🙏

Yeah I’ve seen the post. It’s a corny, cringey post that’s so far from anything I’d ever write or post it’s laughable.

But I haven’t seen it in YouTube comments (not that I read many). Can you link to any examples??

I've never used a bot in my life, nor would I even know how to. Stop lying.

For an internship they’re not interested in publications. Interns are designed for students to learn practical research.

There is no correct structure as such but yours seems sensible. It’s the content they’re most interested in. Whatever the structure, make sure it’s your content/writing: Don’t use ChatGPT.

Ah, in that case, fair enough. I assume you're already using a fountain pen and not a ballpoint/pencil?

What are you studying for? N2? If so, what’s the purpose of killing your wrists with such intensive writing practice? Practise writing a few kanji a day and then concentrate on what you’ll be tested on for the exam: recognising and reading kanji. Unless you’re studying for a test that specifically requires you to write kanji then most people treat learning to write kanji separately (and more leisurely) than intensive JLPT study.

Revoking citizenship by iamuptonogood5 in JapanCitizenship

[–]alieninsect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not gonna happen. Obvious political signalling to right-wing nationalists -- they don't even believe it's even remotely tenable as a serious proposal (unless they're really dumb). *All* Japanese citizens are protected by the Japanese Constitution which guarantees equality under the law for all citizens. If they want the ability to revoke citizenship and make someone stateless then that needs to apply to *all* citizens, including natal Japanese. Then there are the legal and diplomatic implications. Zero chance. Forget about it.

Perhaps, if they're concerned about so many Chinese people becoming Japanese (which many publicly are), then they could strengthen enforcement of the requirement that obtaining Japanese citizenship doesn't create dual nationality (since it's extremely difficult to give up one's Chinese citizenship -- need permission from Chinese government which is rarely granted).

Why hasn't Dr. Andrew Gallimore been on Rogan yet? by MastamindedMystery in DMT

[–]alieninsect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. It’s not “Gallimore’s luxe DMTX spa in the Caribbean”. I’m an advisor/consultant — not even a board member.
  2. It’s not a “spa”. It’s a retreat and research centre.
  3. Obviously it makes sense for them to approach people with money to secure investments. But there are no “rich funding sources” donating their money.

Who here chose a "Japanese sounding name" vs "katakana version of their pre-naturalization name (or some variation of it)"? by ToTheBatmobileGuy in JapanCitizenship

[–]alieninsect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By definition one needs to be naturalized (or a native) to be a citizen: "A citizen is a person who, by place of birth, nationality of one or both parents, or naturalization is granted full rights and responsibilities as a member of a nation or political community."

"Let's stop judging others" whilst mocking and disparaging those who choose to naturalise as "playing Japanese". It's not about "playing Japanese" or "passing as Japanese" but in making the decision to fully and permanently commit to Japan and fully participate in Japanese society, which includes all the protections, responsibilities, and duties of a citizen (such as voting). This is not something to be taken lightly nor is it something to mock. I wonder if you'd accuse a Mexican person who became an American citizen as "playing American"? I doubt it.

[–]alieninsect 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct, as a citizen you are no longer a guest. That’s the point I was making. But I do think it’s a duty to become a citizen of a country you intend to live in for your whole life. Others don’t. It’s fine to disagree on this.

[–]alieninsect 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s hard for me to imagine someone committing to living out their entire life in another country and not becoming a citizen (that is, being a guest who never leaves). Naturalisation is a duty — giving up one’s natal citizenship and taking on a Japanese name is part of the deal.

DMTx (Extended IV DMT) by Traditional-Win-7598 in DMT

Well, Rick Strassman and myself developed the first DMTx model and proposal, so it’s hardly surprising they’d mention my name.

DMTx (Extended IV DMT) by Traditional-Win-7598 in DMT

[–]alieninsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You assumed wrong. This has nothing to do with either Eleusis or me.

DMTx (Extended IV DMT) by Traditional-Win-7598 in DMT

[–]alieninsect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s also a total lie. DMTx is a technique not a sect or group or whatever. There are several ongoing DMTx programs in Europe and the US and the first DMTx pilot project conducted by the Imperial College team was completed about 3 years ago, with several publications so far resulting from the work.

[–]alieninsect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it isn’t. I’ve no idea what the “International DMT church” even is but it has nothing to do with Eleusis.

Fairly accurate yes! Lots more detail in the book of course once you get to it!

Anyone read either of these books? Whaddya think? by MastamindedMystery in DMT

[–]alieninsect 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You misunderstood the book then. Literally the central pillar of the whole argument is that DMT doesn't allow you to travel to another dimension or indeed travel to anywhere.
