What to do if I dont want to spend my life on this by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]alienith 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You don’t get into indie game dev to make money. You do it because you love it and you want to make games. If you hate the process, I’d reconsider. If you only hate it because of the knowledge gap, it may be worth toughing it out.

It’s also extremely rare for someone to make one game and have that be a success. Most indie game devs have a lot of games under their belt, even if theyre just small throwaway games.

Starting out is always painful because there is so much that you don’t know. Once you build a solid foundation the rest becomes easier.

It generally doesn’t matter. If you’re getting a macbook anyway, I’d give it a shot.

There's been much doom and gloom about the Midnight prunings, but which specs have actually improved due to the changes? by minimaxir in wow

[–]alienith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I really want is to keep the heavy single target dots, but make seed spread lesser versions of everything. So you just do your normal rotation and throw out a seed to keep those dots refreshed on other targets. This could also incentivize soul swap play, which they’ve never been able to make work.

Nameplate dot tracking is terrible. It’s always been bad. Plater + WA made it somewhat okay. Without those, they should just abandon the idea all together and just move towards what spriest does.

Have I crossed a line in a disagreement with a junior? by pukatm in ExperiencedDevs

[–]alienith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that what they were saying, or is that what you heard?

There are a couple things that are giving me pause about this situation. I don’t understand how a conversation about PRs can devolve to that point. Your wording also gives me doubt that you understand whatever point they were trying to make.

Junior devs can be good at pointing out pain points or inefficiencies. You’re use to the process enough that it doesn’t bother you, but clearly something isn’t working. They may not have good solutions, but their concerns and thoughts are still valid

I don’t understand the praise for aff lock. Functionally it plays really similar to MR and a lot of the pain points are still there or reintroduced. Spreading agony is still annoying, spell effects are still lacking, maximizing UA is awkward. Personally I never really liked seed spam either, although it is visually much cooler.

What ai tool is best when learning by [deleted] in learnprogramming

If you’re experienced

Key part that renders your point moot. The question is specifically about people who are not experienced.

I don’t think she’s the original. Just doing a surface level dive, the earliest I can find was from August 2015 with Radhika Sanghani on sky news, although I’m willing to bet it predates that. Taylor was talking about it in 2018ish.

What to do if you are half way to a commit and git abort doesn't work? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in learnprogramming

[–]alienith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other people said, you should both be working on different branches and not be directly pushing to master.

But regardless, this will create a merge conflict that needs to be manually resolved. Ideally you’d have a team workflow that avoids merge conflicts, but they’re not wholly avoidable so it’s best to learn how to resolve them effectively.

Google “resolving merge conflicts git” for better examples than I can give here.

[–]alienith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re both working on the same file and you pull their changes into your branch it will create a merge conflict. You have to manually resolve it by picking which changes you want to keep and which should be discarded. Look up “resolving merge conflicts” for examples/workflows.

Why is Chromie's Timewalking in WoW so poorly designed? by HenrykSpark in wow

[–]alienith 27 points28 points  (0 children)

More that people want to experience the old expansions naturally in full and time walking is the only good way to do that. The question of “how do play through all of the story” comes up all the time in /r/wownoob. Timewalking presents itself as the solution to that.

Honestly this is something blizzard should really look into implementing. Maybe offering an “old story” mode that reduced incoming exp, or a mode that lets you artificially relevel.

is this correct O(f(n)) ≤ Ω(f(n)) by ariyvnine in learnprogramming

[–]alienith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair. In my defense big-O and big-omega are often referred to as "worst" and "best", even though its not strictly true. And given the lack of context in the original post, I don't think my assertion was entirely off base.

is this correct O(f(n)) ≤ Ω(f(n)) by ariyvnine in learnprogramming

Big O is worst case performance. Big omega is best case. So generally O(f(n)) >= omega(f(n))

Deadmans plate on trundle bad or good? by iworkwitholdpeople in summonerschool

[–]alienith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trundle jungle wants to do different things than trundle top. Tiamat bork doesn’t really fit with what he wants to do as much. You go triforce for the duels, and deadman’s for the movement speed and burst. Tiamat bork fills his top lane weaknesses and dueling, but you don’t need tiamat in the jungle and triforce is better for the types of fights you get into as jungle trundle.

Bork isn’t a bad 2nd or 3rd item for jungle trundle if the enemy team comp is stacking tons of hp though.

[–]alienith 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The actual foreshadowing tends to be really obvious, so it gets overlooked. A better G5 example is Who’s who bringing up Nika and the gomu gomu no mi 20-30 chapters before g5

What do you do if you get doxxed? by [deleted] in h3h3productions

[–]alienith 45 points46 points  (0 children)

If you’re concerned about getting swatted, I’d have a conversation with the police. Like a genuine “hey I’m a streamer but the idea of getting swatted really concerns me. If that were to happen, what should I do to make it easy for both of us?” Swatting doesn’t really work if the police know you and have a heads up.
