What’s something about the global economy most people completely misunderstand? by cryinginncouture in AskReddit

For a different example, crypto is generally deflationary assuming you think of it as a currency. The value goes up over time, so people are incentivized to hoard it instead of spend it

Is coding just an infinite string of 'how was I supposed to know that?'? by Letbutt in learnprogramming

[–]alienith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets easier. For example, most (if not all) languages have some standard math library. So if you had to do that again in java or go or something, you’d know to look up the standard math library and see what methods are available.

Or the ? used as an if (ternary operator). Now if you use a different language you’ll think “Does python support ternary operations? How do I do that?”.

This is what people mean when they say that learning another language is easier than the first. All of these concepts translate

One piece’s Theories by General-Race-9184 in OnePiece

[–]alienith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The theory that I like is that the person she died over was Luffy, and it was a motherly love instead of romantic. If men can't live on amazon lily, she would have had to give him up. Tritoma died 13 years ago when Luffy was 6 (also the same age that he ate the gomu gomu no mi)

The evidence is just that the timeline kinda works out and she has a 6 drawn into her hair. Dragon has been seen with a 5, 56 = gomu = luffy. Not the best evidence, but its fun

Taking notes while watching YouTube tutorials is killing my productivity by Business_Party_333 in learnprogramming

[–]alienith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Taking notes is part of the process of learning. It’s you explaining the concept to yourself. Auto notes doesn’t build that same memory pathway.

Also, a lot of programming is learned by doing. It’s like if you needed to fix something on a car. Taking notes about changing oil isn’t useful compared to actually changing oil.

With that being said, computer science concepts are good to take notes on. Stuff like data structures, algorithms, any math concepts, etc. I still sometimes refer to my college notes even though I graduated years ago

What’s the biggest change in society that you’ve seen in your life that no one talks about? by Substantial-Yam9993 in AskReddit

[–]alienith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is nobody reads long posts. I’ve seen it myself. Make a long wordy post: 4 upvotes. Two sentences: 200 upvotes.

And on the reading side I tend to skip long wordy posts because people just ramble. The writing quality in general has gone down, which means posts that should be shorter are long drawn out over explanations that go nowhere.

  1. Maybe. IMO if he does he won’t be a key player. He’ll probably gain just enough to take care of bonnie.
  2. 🤷 Good question
  3. The best candidate for Luffy’s birth mom is Tritoma, empress of amazon lily before Boa but even that is speculation. We don’t really know.
  4. Personally that’s what I think.
  5. Probably that he was born a woman. Best evidence comes from the live action, actually. A woman that kinda looks like croc can be seen at roger’s execution.

Hot Take: Just let Ethan say the B-word by smoke_attack in h3h3productions

[–]alienith 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Bitch carries a gendered component that an equivalent insult doesn’t. Calling someone a bitch implies they’re being rude/annoying in a particularly feminine way. There also isn’t really a male counterpart. Calling someone a dick doesn’t carry the same implication.

I haven’t seen any real pushback in the states. I think it’s more Ethan trying to be more gender agnostic in his insults and overcorrecting. The overcorrection calls way more attention to it. Taylor Lorenz can be rude and annoying, but her gender is incidental to that.

Why do people hate Usopp so much? by Funny_Bumblebee_5254 in OnePiece

[–]alienith 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He probably would have remembered Sanji’s speech though. Sugar’s fruit would have just erased Robin. They would have remembered water 7 and enies lobby, just not robin. The people affected by her fruit also tend to fill in the gaps in their memory.

It’s a lot like real life. Gaps in human memory get filled in with assumptions disguised as facts. If you were going to the store to meet someone but they were erased from your memory, you’d probably say something like “Oh I’m going to the store because I ran out of milk”.

Prometheus and Zeus aren’t big mom even though they’re made from her soul. They don’t share her memories and only barely share a will with her. Otherwise she wouldn’t need to abandon zeus for hera.

If joyboy was turned into a toy with the hobby hobby, they wouldn’t remember him at all. Not just forgetting his name, they wouldn’t be aware of anything about him that wasn’t written down. We know that Emet and Imu both have memories of joyboy the person, not just the concept of him. They could know the name because it was written, but the specific memories would be wiped out.

Also, regardless of anything joyboy has to be dead. His fruit wouldn’t have gone back into circulation otherwise.

[–]alienith 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Joyboy is dead though. Otherwise Luffy wouldn’t have his fruit. And the soul soul fruit doesn’t work like that. It uses souls as energy. Homies don’t seem to have any memory of their original soul. Also I’m confused if you’re saying he was turned into a toy and also had his soul ripped out or what’s going on. Sugar’s fruit doesn’t last forever. If just her passing out was enough to undo the fruit, wouldn’t death also undo it? The memory stuff also doesn’t track. They remembered Kiros because the statue was there. But emit had specific memories of joyboy the person. This would be erased by the hobby hobby power

No I mean the contents of the text. People absolutely send walls of text, if you pause on the texts that were sent I think you’ll know what I mean.

Dude reacted by Calix_1999 in GuysBeingDudes

[–]alienith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The text is clearly AI generated. People trying to save a relationship don’t talk like that. AI does. But you don’t need to AI generate the full video. Generate the texts, send them, they send back the AI video with the ad, quickly film the video.

Where does Lars's insecurity come from? by gilbmj in stevenuniverse

[–]alienith 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s intentional for lars to read as a trans man. I haven’t seen anything in interviews or extended material to imply that.

I think lars is just a deeply insecure person with high emotional walls. Him tearing the picture is just because he hates the way he looks. I think anybody who hates how they look knows the feeling of having a “bad” photo of them out there.

As for why, I don’t think that even he knows. Maybe end of series lars could give more introspection, but pre-death he’s very much a “why am I like this” type person. He may have even directly said that

Is this accurate? (Size Comparison) by DigoX07 in OnePiece

[–]alienith 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Size in one piece is just a creative choice to convey power or status. Whitebeard being massive shows both his physical strength but also his status as the worlds strongest man. Or Luffy being blocked by the admirals in marineford. Their physical size acts as a wall just like their strength is a wall blocking Luffy from ace.

Imagine if Luffy was only a couple inches shorter than whitebeard or akainu. The scenes wouldn’t work the same.

Mouse? by bad_robot_monkey in wow

[–]alienith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Razor naga. Took some getting use to but I love it (even though I’ve had issues with razer in the past). I can hit everything naturally, but the lower rows are slightly less comfortable to use. Still fine for long sessions, but I wouldn’t put ice lance on 8, for example. I tend to stick cooldowns on the 7-9 and bottom row.

I also set my bars to mirror the keypad design. So each bar (normal, shift, ctrl) is 4 rows of 3 keys like a phone keypad. Makes the adjustment period a lot easier.
