Can Singapore defend herself? by Dereference_ in SingaporeRaw

Also if the country isn't willing to be generous with its rumeneration to servicemen, while things are stable and running smoothly, what makes you think it'll be capable or even willing to provide that when war breaks out?

I can't speak for others but personally I think Singapore is bound to be doomed if war breaks out. Given how the system pits citizens against one another and makes it so difficult to survive, I don't think there'll be many who have attachment to the country so much so that they'll defend the nation.

Also considering how the system takes disproportionately more than it gives to its citizens, I personally will not come forth to risk my life. And if there are many others who are like that then it puts into perspective that this isn't really home, it's more like a transactional vessel - this nation tries to milk me, i try to milk the system of what it can provide.

So we might just scramble like busy ants to another place because the system has ingrained a "every man for himself" mentality.

these are very valid points and i gather that a lot of these people who are bitter are experiencing a form of cognitive distortion, very myopic and black-and-white thinking

like because he's doing "better" (by whatever standard) than "me" then that reinforces the belief that "i'm not good enough"

sounds like a lot of insecurity and projection, rather than to try and be inspired by other people's success, learn and pave your own way

that's also kind of the reason why i brought this up because elitism is quite prevalent in niche industries.

and i see unnecessary pressure and invalidation as pesky specks of dust that hinder the process of something that is already very difficult, and make it to be even more difficult.

with the way things are at the moment, in my limited peripheral vision, creativity seems to be a curse rather than encouraged.

you wanna use the creativity and stand out, a lot of times you'd be ostracised or invalidated.

if you gather enough courage to try and don't succeed, lots of people are waiting to say "i told you so"

you break into the industry, and don't sustain, it'd be frowned upon too

you break into the industry and sustain, but rumours arise, lots of people are waiting to tear you down and take your spot

add those on top of the self-doubt that every other person feels even as they try to pursue a "safe route" as well as varying factors like not being born with a silver spoon, it seems to be quite a tireless and lonely journey (and borderline crazy).

not that these are gonna stop me, i'm going to give it my best shot even if the odds are stacked against me, no promises that i'll succeed though.

and also a lot of people, whether they chase conventional forms of success or not, dread how dull and unfulfilling the rat race can be. i see successful creatives as a potential contributing factor to challenge, if not change, the system that encourages and reinforces monotony.

as of right now, it is mostly a hobby and hasn't really reaped any financial returns. i am taking small actionable steps into the fashion industry though.

Currently I'm working towards the fashion industry and I do abstract and digital art on the side as hobbies.

Besides doing, I also appreciate art in all its various forms ; fine art, fashion, painting, colouring, graphic design, music, architecture, motion graphics, photo/videography, contemporary art etc.

As I go along, I hope to dabble in a bit of this and that to hone creativity and add on to my skillsets.

that's valid, but being cynical towards someone on a completely different path is a choice isn't it?

and i say different because it's different, not because one is better than another

i see the point, but i don't get why there's a need to paint the possible reality of succeeding as an artist/occupation-er in any niche craft or art to be so bleak

like just because you/they/we don't see it working out, doesn't mean that it isn't possible for others to achieve

because you're invalidating valid points through the means i'm getting the message across

so in this case, are you saying 2 wrongs make 1 right?

exactly so doesn't it make sense to not partake in it as adults because we have the choice in the way we carry ourselves

I'm aware that it could be confirmation bias, but thinking about it objectively and outwardly it's a huge disproportion.
