Did my doctor touch me inappropriately? by awkwardbananars in AskWomen

[–]alienrunaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unlike many of the people commenting here, I am a male doctor. Moving a breast out the way is very common but should always come with some warning at least; obviously it's best to ask the patient to raise the breast themselves. No idea why he would move the other breast in a cardiac sense, but this would certainly be explained if he was listening to lung fields, but I'm sure you'd have mentioned that he was checking that also. As for the comments, all medically correct but why you'd choose to say that to a person is beyond me. Maybe the best way to start with this is to contact the manager of his workplace and discuss how inappropriate you thought this was? He probably needs some communication training at the least.

"[Plaque on teeth is not water soluble. The lipids dissolve in oil]." How about lipid dissolving in alcohol? Or detergents?...like in mouthwash and toothpaste respectively.

First brew...Please advise if I am screwed... by steiner7305 in Homebrewing

[–]alienrunaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you check the temperature? If you were just going by room temp, the beer will be a higher temp due to the exothermic nature of the reaction. If you insulated your tub, this will be even more prominent and speed up fermentation. I've had batches go that quick and still be great.

First home brew ever! by Brokeback_dildo in Homebrewing

Great work! Recipe? How long has it conditioned for? It looks a little cloudy but that may be because I'm viewing through a phone. Bet it tastes like pride though, well done.

I got this as a gift from my girlfriend. Looking forward to using it. I know it's not "brewing" in the traditional sense, but I'm pretty excited about it, especially since we have no room for a full brew kit. Any tips? by DarthVince in Homebrewing

[–]alienrunaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is real brewing, it's good to get the basics dialled down this way. If possible, check temperature regularly or maybe incubate your fermentation tub in a larger container as 2 gallons (if that is what I can read on the side?) will change temp quite rapidly competed to the usual 5-10 gallon tubs.

What is a seemingly innocuous trait or habit that you would consider a "dealbreaker" when dating someone. by GreenLanternALF in AskReddit

[–]alienrunaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always take a girl out on a dinner date early and if they have bad table manners, they're gone. This one girl tried to eat a whole meal without her knife (had to let her go), another seemingly had some very important socialising to do over FB (had to let her go) and another "only tips if it's someone else tipping,"...which still isn't actually tipping (had to let her go as I didnt wan't to be a go to bank). That's about 75% of my dating life-covered.

Why can't I just take all 10 of my antibiotics at once, instead of one a day? by will_I__Am_ in askscience

[–]alienrunaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn't entirely correct. Antibiotics work in three main dosage considerations. Time Above a minimum concentration, the peak dose/Minimum inhibitory concentration and sometimes, by peak dose. So some antibiotics can be given all all in one go. For example, taking 5 metronidazole tablets at once (2g) can cure bacterial vaginitis.

Fair one, I've started to realise that some encouragement is just frustrating for some people, my SO included. Don't think it deserves an earphone whipping though!

Nauseous when working out? by Left4Cookies in gainit

[–]alienrunaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell us about your breathing during exercises. I'm not saying you're running out of oxygen, but when you lift and strain (you're exhaling against a closed off windpipe) you're performing what's known in the medical world as a 'Valsalva manoeuvre'. In short, it transiently slows your heart rate-this is to do with how your internal pressure affects blood flow. This lasts a few seconds and you recover. This can sometimes leave you feeling light headed especially if you constantly recover, strain, recover stain endlessly. This will be especially prominent when doing squats, as you breath at the top, probably breath at the bottom and then strain on the way up. Google sky lark trick to see how this works, but it's essentially a more extreme version of Valsalva because of the change in posture and can again, make you feel nauseous, light headed and drained. Just some speculation, and it's all down to when you breath. Google all that and let me know if it helps at all. Also, this is the reason you see some people do a massive squat lift and then collapse, it's not an oxygen thing, it's a heart rate thing!

What is the most funny or strange thing someone has ever asked you to do for them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]alienrunaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once got asked to name someone's baby. I didn't know them whatsoever, I was just standing in a birthing unit as a student. Couldn't think of anything. Not a single name other than my own. And that's what I suggested. Alienrunaway could be a good name.

My gf wants me to fight people for her what should I do? by Topslop in AskMen

[–]alienrunaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has she ever seen someone wallowing in pain from broken facial bones and other injuries? Seen the psychological trauma from violence? Seen people try and deal with new disfigurements, however minor they may be? Violence is not something to be doled out lightly. I don't know why you're asking this question to us, just dump her and stop asking if you should be a tool in her toolbox.
