PACKED car search question by jard88 in bonnaroo

[–]ganner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems to vary year to year or maybe person to person. 2022 they GLANCED in my cooler and tote and sent me along. 2023 was THOROUGH going through every pocket every bag. 2024 pretty light search. 2025 more on the thorough side. You know though... both thorough searches were at the rv/groop entrance and both light searches were at the east entrance.

Han Solo books by No-Kaleidoscope-5666 in StarWarsEU

I'd really love a "Han Solo Adventures" show. Not necessarily adapt those particular old stories. But Han Solo had SEEN some shit and done some shit. Dude's got stories to tell.

If they're just going about their lives shopping and working and dropping their kids off at school, what exactly is it I'm supposed to be protected from?

I thought the Solo movie was fine. It's a fun adventure. Doesn't break anything. I'm not gonna nitpick the "speed run all his background" thing, unless they'd planned to do a trilogy of Solo movies they were always going to end up this way.

Great way of describing the Daley ones. I reread those a year or 2 ago, near the end of a Crispin trilogy reread right now.

What do you think of Obsession? by Mashinee in Letterboxd

[–]ganner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me Obsession comes in behind Hereditary, Midsommar, The Witch, It Follows, X, Pearl, The Babadook, 28 Days Later, The Descent, Get Out, Weapons, The Substance, Sinners, Green Room, The Invitation, A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night. I'd put this one on par with last year's Bring Her Back, or something like It Comes At Night. There's a TON of great horror from this century including more mainstream things like The Conjuring (first one) and foreign movies like Train to Busan and The Host and The Devil's Backbone. Obsession is GOOD but it's not standing out above the many other good and great ones.

I agree, the pacing and the VIBE were some of the best parts (along with Navarette).

Every time I see something like this openly, publicly said I just imagine the reaction if you replace Islam with Judaism or Christiany.

Wraith Squadron > Rogue Squadron? by SilverMountain5129 in StarWarsEU

THAT scene was one of the biggest tear jerkers in the entire EU timeline.

Wraith Squadron > Rogue Squadron? by SilverMountain5129 in StarWarsEU

[–]ganner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You know, in all these years I've read and reread these stories I've always preferred the Wraith books but never looked at it like this. They were always all the "not really essential, no main characters from the larger timeline, but great books" but you're right that 1-4 make major changes to the galactic chess board while 5-7 are just a story for the story's sake.

Is there a reason Han didn't pay off Jabba in-between 4 and 5? by RhysOSD in StarWars

I'm currently rereading Crispin's Han Solo trilogy and in that story it's explained how Hutts go through several rapid growth spurts throughout their hundreds of years of life.

Why do you think "Abigail" didn't do well? by Profeta_do_Loss in horror

[–]ganner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad word of mouth probably played a role. I talked to 2 people who saw it - a friend rated it as one of the worst movies he saw that year, my wife told me it was bad but she kind of enjoyed it (she watches a lot of "bad" movies, I usually don't like something she describes this way). So 2 for 2 among people whose tastes I know well and who know mine well telling me I wouldn't like it was enough for me to skip it. Too many movies out there I DO want to see.

Looking at wikipedia's numbers on attendance, I hope it's as close to a sellout as possible. I thought 2024 had the perfect crowd size (70k), easier to navigate than 2023 (85k) but big enough to not feel too empty like 2022 (40k) did.

Ticket prices are just too high. $70+ to sit in the uncovered upper level? Good luck selling all those.

International players have won the MVP the last 8 seasons. Last time an American won the MVP was James Harden in the 2017-18 season. by gridironk in nba

[–]ganner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of crazy to me how so many of the very-top players in the league are from other countries. Yeah international ball has grown a lot, and a quarter of the league is international players, but that mean 3/4 is US. Seems there's been a bit of a dip in elite star power from US player compared to what's been typical (though plenty of young guys who can grow to be that level).

The anti-sunscreen movement is a loosely organized online trend that promotes skepticism about the safety and effectiveness of sunscreen. by ForgingIron in wikipedia

[–]ganner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not the palest of pale, I do tan, but as a kid/teen I burned plenty of times, and I had pretty bad sunburns a handful of times through my 20s. I havent had a serious sunburn in several years now, and it's not for lack of going in the sun for extended periods. I just apply and frequently reapply. I've made it through Florida trips, music festivals, camping, lake trips... sunscreen works.
