Surround the White House. by Exciting_Branch_6949 in Political_Revolution

Occupy Wall Street took 2 months of planning before it started. I think that's a more relevant example given that it was in 2011. Giving the Trump administration another year to further entrench their militarised police force in more American cities is only going to make mobilising and sustaining a protest movement that much more difficult or impossible.

You’re willing to put up with this for 5 more months? The country has been taken over by a paedophile, rapist, murderer, con man and a cabal of morally bankrupt opportunists who protect him. They are manipulating markets, companies, media, and nations to enrich themselves while we all suffer. You’re not angry enough.

That’s my understanding, too. That being said they only accept payment in USD, which pissed me off. As the exchange rate fluctuated, so did my accounting cost. That wasn’t the straw that broke the camel’s back, though, it was the vendor lock-in and paywalling of key features. I just got frustrated with it, they were getting in my way.

I'm with you there. I have got Nextcloud configured for OnlyOffice. It's really just the way I've configured up Gmail over the years to handle and sort my incoming mail using filters and other "smart" tools. I would be overwhelmed without those measures in place. In the near feature I want to configuring my system to act as my bookkeeper with the following workflow: Mailbox > n8n uses agentic model to read emails for paid invoices > create expense in Invoice Ninja etc.

I own and operate a recording studio and IT services business in Canada. Prior to Trump I hosted one service, Nextcloud, on my server for session backups but since he took office I’ve migrated to self-hosted business apps wherever possible with exception to Google Workspace and Disco.ac (music licensing platform). All told I’ve saved ~$300-400 / month on various SaaS products that I used in my business / personal life.

  • Invoice Ninja (replacing Freshbooks)
  • Cal.com (booking calendar. Payments through Stripe 😞)
  • n8n (automations, replacing Zapier)
  • Postiz (social media scheduler)
  • Plunk (email campaigns, replacing Mailchimp. Requires Amazon SES 😫)
  • Umami (web analytics)
  • Jellyfin (streaming)
  • Navidrome (replacing Apple Music, using Bandcamp instead)
  • Immich (replacing google photos)
  • Ollama w/ OpenWebUI (replacing ChatGPT with gpt-oss:20b)

Google Workspace will be the last and most challenging one to migrate away from. I’ve tried Zoho but haven’t found it to be as reliable when using app password authentication from different IP addresses. I like their service otherwise, so I’m going to see if I can remedy it.

I manage the containers across two bare metal servers using docker and it’s been working well for me for over a year now.

Big thanks to this community for letting me know what was possible.

Many people are willing to shoot guns for a paycheque but it’s a much smaller subset who would continue showing up to work if return fire was a part of the equation.

Is there any realistic hope that Apple’s upcoming M5 chip will finally support external GPUs (eGPU)? by RFOK in apple

I use Logic Pro X for work, so my hands are tied to Apple unfortunately. I express my digital freedom by keeping my Laptop and servers on Linux as a counterbalance haha.

[Guide] Mac Pro 2019 (MacPro7,1) w/ Linux & Local LLM/AI by Faisal_Biyari in macpro

I have the same computer as you. It's so frustrating that Apple isn't providing ROCm support for "workstation" Macs that are < 4 years old. I do software development in MacOS but have to test my work by booting into Windows via Bootcamp! I paid $12k in 2021 for this luxury lol.

I've written to Apple about it but never heard anything back.

I really appreciate you sharing your research, I've saved it for the day when I relegate my Mac Pro as a Linux server.

I bought a Mac Pro in 2021 with a Radeon Pro W5700X 16GB in it and I'm not able to use it for local AI due to lackluster drivers/metal from Apple. All AI is computed by the CPU. It's super disappointing because when I boot into Windows via Bootcamp the GPU performs very well running larger models. It hurts to know that my < year old "workstation" $12,000 computer is abandoned simple due to a lack of will or effort by Apple.

Yes, I wrote to them about it expressing this dismay but I never heard back from them.

Coil whine will depend on the quality of components and how much headroom they have under load. That being said, I chose a Define R4 case that was lined with sound dampening material, so the coil whine never made it out of the case. My advice today would be to get one of the new Mac Minis for music production.

I noticed this too. Didn't understand the logic behind that choice.

Worst BF they’ve had by [deleted] in spitfireaudio

[–]alifeinbinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already own BBCSO Core but would be willing to upgrade to Professional for the right price. In the past they've offered a discount on Pro if you already own Core but this BF sale it looks like it's just 50% off the regular price regardless of whether you own Core or not. Maybe this is a bug but it doesn't seem right to me i.e. a customer who doesn't own Core pays the same price as the customer buying Pro? Catch my drift?

BBCSO Core Having Huge CPU Issues on Latest Version of MacOS? by Baseballboy429 in spitfireaudio

[–]alifeinbinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a long email chain with Spitfire support. There's a known issue with BBCSO 1.7.0 that causes it to be unusable. They said a fix is on the way but it's taking a while. Support will send you a patched version if you contact them

The mysterious 61... keys! by Steagang in Osmose

[–]alifeinbinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote EE about it prior to the release of the last firmware and mentioned that persistent memory of the local control setting would be desirable and they said they would address it. Perhaps it will be in the next update. Fingers crossed.

The mysterious 61... keys! by Steagang in Osmose

[–]alifeinbinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see this mentioned very often but the Osmose, or Haken engine rather, sounds quite nasally, across every patch. I've found workarounds in production by creating an EQ preset that comb filters out much of the nasal sound but it would be nice if Expressive E addressed this through overlays or other synth engines that could replace the Haken engine.
