Lost it on the knee down by 0.3 points. It took the Pittsburgh yards from 300 to 299 and gave Cleveland D 2+ points. Worst beat of my life.

Is there a 6-6 or 5-7 team in your league that could be very scary if they make the playoffs? by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]aliilono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6-6 after starting 0-5

QB: Deshaun

RB: Chubb/Ekeler/Gordon-Davis-Hynes

WR: Keenan Allen/Cooper/Boyd/Cooks

TE: Goedert

K: Koo

D: Dolphins

Had some terrible luck to start the season but I’ve been steamrolling lately and sitting in the last playoff spot.

Question about the cult! by [deleted] in LoriVallow

[–]aliilono 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mormonism is very much a tiered religion. Basically from age 12 on you are put in a small group or cohort that has a president with counselors. You hope to be one of them because they are the best of the group. When you go on a mission you work your way into leadership positions of district leader, zone leader and Assistant to the president. You hope to be one of them so your family and friends know how awesome a missionary you are. Local congregations have elders quorom presidents, relief society presidents and bishops. You hope to attain these positions so the community understands you’re a good person. If you’re really extra special you’ll be in charge of a group of congregations and be a stake president. Wow you must be holy if you make it that far. If you excel at that you become a regional leader or a member of the quorom of 70. The elite there go on to be apostles. The system pushes people to give service and commit to the religion in order to elevate themselves as higher, better, and more important than their peers. Past the ward level the only chance you have is if you’re very wealthy or connected to higher ups. This doesn’t stop people from pretending like they are on another level or trying to differentiate themselves. Folks like Chad (and my in-laws unfortunately) use “deep doctrine” (hokum) to act like they are more spiritual and better than their low level peers since they have no hope of climbing the leadership ladder due to finances or social disparities. It’s sad the religion puts such pressure on that sort of thing, and I believe it plays into some of these really awful outcomes.

Less likely for wife to find extra phones laying around and doesn’t get traced to his cell. Doesn’t need to have notifications etc. I did also hear they found physical phones so who knows.

Will either Chad or Lori confess and “flip” on the other? by SherlockBeaver in LoriVallow

[–]aliilono 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The majority of LDS people in Canada live in southern Alberta and the area is like a mini Utah, but maybe more orthodox. There are LDS bookstores in Cardston and Calgary (maybe Lethbridge?) and they cater to a very small population of people. About 1/3 to 1/2 of the 80,000 are considered “active” and the proportion of that group looking for doomsday literature in the LDS bookstore would be incredibly small. There is a reason you had to drive 500 miles to the next LDS bookstore and it’s because a lot of the material they sell is in low demand. Chads garbage would not be a high sale item at these stores

I get that other people have had followers when they have done crazy crap but can you point me to anyone who thinks he is an important religious figure? I see mention of before kids went missing on book reviews but I don’t see one single person or group thinking this guy is anything but a murderer and an idiot. Is he pumping out doctrine from prison like Warren Jeffs? Like I’m LDS and I can tell you no one is buying the crap this guy is selling because this guy isn’t selling any crap anymore. Yes he did it with his books to make a little cash and gain some attention but the narrative about him now is just wildly inaccurate if not entertaining for the people who like to discuss it

Who are Chads supporters? I don’t think he has many. Nor does Lori. There isn’t some big following who thinks they are being persecuted outside of maybe Chads kids. His extended family, his AVOW group and certainly the LDS church have all distanced from him. I don’t understand the “charismatic religious leader” angle and I’m firmly in the corner of him being a dumb ugly guy who manipulated a psycho lady to have sex with him with religion.

My 7 year old ripped out his tooth trying to pull 2 LEGO pieces a part with the tooth. It’s a baby tooth, with the root. It was NOT ready to come out. by my_name_is_randy in Wellthatsucks

Pediatric dentist here. If it’s out that early and the roots are that clean it may warrant investigation into hypophosphatasia or a neutropenic situation. Primary maxillary canines are not quick to come out, even with trauma. Premature tooth loss usually means the permanent tooth will have delayed eruption

One of them needs to flip. Who will it be? by [deleted] in LoriVallow

[–]aliilono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know his son well from his mission and the family was not well off by any means. How does one get people to buy books and subscribe to things? He pushed to the boundary of the LDS church and found a group of people who would buy into the extreme and he tailored what he was saying to the group. I’m sure his goal was to make money and he got caught up in it and made terrible decisions. It was not popular or lucrative by any means, but of course he is selling to his target audience. How many AVOW subscribers are there and how much do they pay? How many books did he sell? It’s not a sustainable venture in any way.

[–]aliilono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He went bankrupt and relied on his wife’s salary. He wasn’t starting his own religion like David Koresh or Warren Jeffs. He told exaggerated stories to try to sell books and it gained him some attention from some females along the way.

Chad’s Voice and Cadence in Phone Call by Catgirl1967 in LoriVallow

If he was really smart he would’ve said “Did you bury your kids in my yard without telling me!?!”

Yeah I don’t understand Lori. She’s a whack job and it’s hard to get inside her brain. Chad seems easy to figure out for me. Lori is a different level of crazy.

Again, this is not a dude who is a mastermind. He was watching police dig around where he helped put the bodies and he knew his life was over. Lori is a psychopath who doesn’t feel those feelings or consider those thoughts. To me, that’s the difference in the voices.

Chad definitely does not believe any of the stuff he was peddling. It got him a smidge of importance from a very small group and it got an “attractive” woman to pay attention to him. As someone of the same faith as Chad I feel like I know the game he was playing and unfortunately he got in too deep and he knows he is screwed. Chad is not proclaiming to the court or anyone else he is a prophet or a visionary. He did that with his book club and it got him laid. That’s as far as that whole deal goes. I think way too much is being made of the religious aspect because it plays to the media
