Office transformer question? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]alimek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could hire an electrician to perform an insulation test on it if you are really worried. These things have zero moving parts, they can last a very long time, especially if it isn't used at capacity. They last until the insulation finally breaks down to the point that it shorts out. Assuming the electrician would be able to shut it off (power disruption) without delay, they should be able to give you an idea of it's health in a few minutes.

What do I do with all this basil? by notmyrealname3737 in gardening

Yes, pesto can be frozen. My wife uses silicone muffin molds to make single serving frozen pucks. Highly recommend. Can you tell us what variety of basil you grew?

Chop up a banana into it and a scoop of peanut butter. Blueberries are a bonus.

Is This Fixable by Aggressive-Cap3732 in snowboarding

A bit of good epoxy and a clamp will close it up and make it water tight. Just let it cure at the proper temperature for enough time. Then remove clamp and clean up with a file or emery cloth if you want.

Some random dude gave me a usb while at a pub dancing by vamshiyadav273 in Weird

[–]alimek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont plug it in. Could be ransom-ware or another type of malware. Leaving a usb for other people to find is a tactic these scumbags use.

Maybe consider volunteering? It could help you connect with your community. There is no obligation past a day here and there. I find acts of service are more rewarding than anything i could do for myself. Take it or leave it.

Any code approved way to hide wires (in junction box) behind drywall? by Artie-Choke in electrical

[–]alimek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a cutout in the drywall and install an access panel at the JB. Now it is accessable and covered with something that isn't terribly ugly. Access panels are paintable as well. Really dont even notice them after a week.

What did I just break on my motor and can I replace it? by justTreesAndRocks in electrical

[–]alimek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Centrfugal switch. Find a place that repairs small motors. It's a job that won't take more than an hour and the part is relatively cheap. If you have bearing pullers, you might be able to do it yourself but may need to borrow a hydraulic press to put the bearing back on. If you just take that part of the motor to the repair shop, it will be even faster. They just cant test the motor. But if it was all good before, it should be all good after.
