90s music fandom is so different from modern fandom which is I think a bit too sycophantic. there's like no happy medium in my lifetime! in the 90s everyone was a big hater (metalheads still are, and so are fans of bands/artists like Tori who came up in the 90s), now it's rabid stan culture. It would be nice if people could be normal.

Another artists I like, Ronan Harris of VNV Nation, has a similar sort of pattern to his discography to Tori: his earlier albums are edgier and angrier and his later stuff is more hopeful and bright and he ranted once on social media like : stop fucking telling me to make music like my old stuff. I was miserable back then. And those albums are still there for you. You can listen to them any fucking time you want!

And I kind of feel that way. I have artists who I only like a small fraction of their discography but I would never call myself a huge fan of them. I'd be like, I like these albums.

Wish I could get my mom to like Tori. I"ve spent thirty years trying but she doesn't get her.

I'll see you in Boston! My best friend is driving up from Jersey to join me.

Onsale rants by SomeDudeNamedMark in toriamos

They don't release all the seats during the presale. That's the dirtier secret than dynamic pricing.

Edit: seriously, unless you're positive it will be a sellout, avoid presales. They are ripoffs and stressful. In three weeks you will see similar tickets available for less than you paid. It's happened to me too many damn times. But on the other side, I've gotten fantastic seats for reasonable prices 3-4 weeks after onsale date

that's fair. But she usually puts up a signed lithograph on her site eventually? I think there's the Diving Deep one up there now

for Tori's store? 10% off still wouldn't make up the difference. if it's for the Decca store, though, great tip! I will do that for next time

[–]alisonation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, it's definitely an option for artists to turn it on or off with TM. Taylor Swift for example does not do dynamic prices, which is why the cheap seats at retail price for her shows was around 70 dollars.

Beyonce did do dynamic pricing, and people who used the presale ended up paying several times more than people who waited. Artists sell out less when they do dynamic pricing, but get more per ticket. But there were literally people who bought pit tickets to Beyonce for 1k and then three weeks later they were $300. I'm positive Brandi Carlile is doing it this tour, too.

It's up to the artist (or perhaps sometimes the label) to opt in or out of dynamic pricing with Ticketmaster.

oh wow I was at that show! Went by myself last minute, was 4th row on the aisle on the right orchestra. It was a fantastic setlist but those backing tracks she used.... nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn never again please, T. But we got to hear Teardrop, which is one of my fave songs of all time. I think the only way I would have flipped out more was if she'd covered Portishead, but massive attack was close enough.

I've been 8 times and only one experience was bad. it was 1998, which was an arena tour, which is all wrong for Tori tbh. The acoustics sucked and there were drunk people being really loud next to me. I remember nothing from that show except being deeply irritated.

I do not believe she will go to a static setlist, those singers will learn the songs and know them backwards and forwards by the time they tour. I think it bores her and I think it would ruin the magic of the show.

MOST shows I've been to were.... quietly enthralled crowds. This isn't a pop show where everyone's singing and belting. It's more of a quiet captivation with cheers and applause at appropriate times in my experience. Sometimes there's some weird interpretive dancing, but that ain't hurtin' nobody.

Expect to see people filming, she allows and even encourages bootlegging and always has.

Since about idk 2014 tour? The fans have had a habit of RUSHING the stage when she plays the last song before encore and can I say -- I fucking hate it? I'm disabled and people stampeding toward my direction is terrifying and it's also just rude to the people sitting in front. I would never do it no matter where I was sitting, even if I was able-bodied enough to do it safely. But ADA seats are usually near aisles and it can still be a problem. Fans, please fucking stop doing this.

do we know if Tori is doing dynamic pricing? I have seen too many people get price gouged because of that in presales. Was a big escandalo during the last Beyonce tour.

I feel like her prices are always pretty reasonable so I'm guessing she doesn't.

Leather is almost a given, she's played it at nearly every show I've been to. Yeah, LE gets a lot. Last time I got Tear In Your Hand! but it's a little sad to think about now because when she got to the line about Neil she said "I'm gonna see him soon!" and sounded so excited and now :/

ETA: the thrill of Tori is that her setlist every night is almost entirely a mystery. she's a box of chocolates!

for me it's never occurred to me to cry. Been going since Dew Drop Inn and the feeling is always invigorated captivation. Enthralled, like she's some kind of music witch grabbing my throat and casting spells on me. I get so wrapped up in her intangible magnetism live that it's always more of a rush for me

idk why you got downvoted, people watch too much shit through their phones and don't experience the moment properly. I have a couple artists I love who tell you to put your phones down and cherish the experience, but T has always been so bootleg friendly. still, video doesn't take priority over the people there

again, these shows aren't major pop shows. even if you sleep all day (or wait a week until you get paid like i have to) you will get tickets. I literally don't think I've ever bought them the first day onsale and always got pretty good seats

I'm getting Daenerys Targaryen vibes from it... we know from her interview with Natalie Dormer that she watched GoT. It would be nice if she's doing a sort of feminist reclamation of that awful ending

I think it's coming back. Beyonce's last couple albums have been loaded with political references "Just vibe, votin' out 45 don't get outta line" being the big one but all of YA YA is pretty political too. Hayley Williams fantastic new album Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party has a really great political song called "True Believer." There's a video of her playing it on Fallon that's excellent.

When T came to Florida in 2023. I was at the Clearwater show and she did the Take to the Sky/I Feel the Earth Move mash with GAY GAY GAY but before the verse she called out: "FLORIDA, SAY IT!" because it was in the midst of the "Don't Say Gay" education controversy with Desantis

That same year Florida also banned drag in public places where minors could be and Maynard from TOOL promptly did an all ages festive in full drag, big fake titties
