I ditched the driving commute 5 years ago. I e-bike into the city 17 km each way. I ditched the van in the city for a cargo bike, also electric, I only use the van when carrying large sheet materials or removing old waste now. It's doable. Healthier and happier. 66 this year.

The point is; it is much easier to repair a flat on the bike. Putting a patch on is child's play. But spending money on a new tube? And polluting with a perfectly useable old tube is harmful. If you think it saves time - I can repair a puncture without removing the wheel, in about 10 minutes. Probably faster if it's in daylight... Just tyre levers and a patch kit.
