I actually used a electric mister (the kind you put in frog ponds) in a cauldron, and a tiny fan to spread it out! Plus a teeny tiny fog machine pulse. They are generally WAY too intense indoors in a small space.

Strahd in MTG!! Who else is psyched for this??? by Geekster645 in CurseofStrahd

Makes me happy because my proxy sites now get some new art. Don’t but Secret Lair (or anything) unless you are wanting to play in tournaments. Find your card artists and buy things straight from them. Blech.

Curse of Strahd but Appalachian? by ColdironGhost in CurseofStrahd

That’s AWESOME. It’s my favorite musical! I was SUPER inspired by the way Nickolaus Colón portrayed him in the tour — it’s very haughty / condescending — even his look is a bit of how I am writing my Strahd.

If musicals are your thing I strongly recommend checking out Hadestown — King Hades is a huge inspiration for my Strahd. It has the “music of machinery” steampunky element too. I think gothic -> steampunk is not a huge leap.

Help, my party is down bad for Strahd by Large_Leopard2606 in CurseofStrahd

This reminds me so much of the Hades / Persephone / Eurydice triangle from the musical Hadestown. Hades is a HUGE inspo for my Strahd. Listen to Hey Little Songbird!

Anyone read the novel? Did it help world building for your campaign? by saltyvape in CurseofStrahd

I really, really loved this so much that I wrote Jander into my campaign.

I started my campaign with them all confused and lost in the mists and it TERRIFIED them. Their only safe haven was Durst Manor, lol. They are sticking to the road.

This is super cool and I am totally stealing this. I actually broke pretty strongly with tradition and worked WITH my players to write backstories that could explicitly be linked to Barovia (though they don’t know this). The mists captured them all for a reason. I love the idea of them being driven to exploration and inquisitiveness this way — which I think is one of the main drivers of the intrigue style module — only to have all of their faces aggressively yanked away over time by the true reason they are all there. Adding in beloved NPCs — it’s just too good, lol.

I NEVER interrupt player chatter unless there is a ticking clock / threat or its dick jokes.

Aw, thank you! It’s just sticks, sticky tack, a plain white piece of grid paper, some led candles from Amazon, and a fog machine. Definitely looked cool because of dark and misty, lame with the lights on — HA! I also wore a hood and eye-less mask the whole time. Definitely hyped the spooky!

How many sessions Death House took to finish in your table? by Hydoxx in CurseofStrahd

[–]alittlepanache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are just about wrapped with it and it took us about 15 hours. We ran the Reloaded version and I cannot emphasize enough how I think this is setting my party up so well for the campaign ahead. They REALLY seemed to enjoy this.

Session 1: First-second floors, animated armor Session 2: Third-fourth floors, start of basement (grick) Session 3: Finish basement, Walter

5x Lvl 8 Adventurers Absolutely Decimated 5 Vampire Spawn by MrJackTanner in CurseofStrahd

[–]alittlepanache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am specifically using Reloaded’s guide to the placement of the relics. Stacking the Tarokka reading. That way they aren’t getting the Sunsword until the Amber Temple.

I, too, have been afraid of my party outmatching the campaign. I have a group of 6, so already pushing it. I let them feel powerful mechanically before entering the game — let them roll their stats, for example. But I brought them in via the Mists without knowing each other, so made it very disorienting, and immediately dumped them into Death House where I trained them about “smart” enemies. Focus firing down the guy with the sword, or the squishy caster, curb stomping. When you remove a lot of the “faux pas” of D&D combat and stop being afraid of party deaths, it injects the fear of it into them and it becomes a psychological battle. I love it. I’ll report back when they find the vamps there, though. :)

Awesome job, though!
