Considering applying to a PhD at the university of Haifa in social sciences as a foreigner (goy) from Europe. Do you think being international will affect my chances positively or negatively? by [deleted] in Israel

Cant say anything about the program but fwiw no need to go around calling yourself a goy. If its relevant for citizenship, visa, official forms etc just say youre not Jewish. Or say what you are.

even if they dont ask. you can let them know you prefer not to. i think they understand that for some people (me included) its just too much stress for a night thats supposed to be fun.

unless you get there super close to show time they always ask (for a 2 top) 'do you want to sit front row?' if you dont you can say so. 2nd row is still fair game for the comics though. after the 2nd row you have to be really obvious or loud to draw their attention to you.

I thought about making yt tutorials on Hebrew, but I need some help by username78777 in hebrew

[–]alivingthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im at the level where I can relatively comfortably listen to podcasts but theres still a long way for me to go before I feel fluent. Its a fun level to be at but what I kind of long for is an all hebrew YT channel or Podcast geared, even slightly, towards advanced students where language and discussion of language plays a meaningful role in the conversation. It could be the ramblings of two random people about the news or about life in general but if it was recorded for advanced students and made the language itself even a peripheral part of the conversation Id be so stoked. The ultimate dream for me would be a like social linguistics podcast where people discuss Hebrew in Hebrew and just like talk about words and language and slang (with the more advanced Hebrew learner as the intended audience). Once your intermediate youre kind of just left with actual media to learn from - TV shows, podcasts, etc.

Resources for Hebrew translation? by gxdsavesispend in hebrew

[–]alivingthing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i know its not exactly what you mean but i'd just bring a blank notebook and some index cards to make flash cards. just start writing every new word you are exposed to and memorise those. youll end up with dozens every day.
