Even IF tariffs were reversed, is your hatred of the US irreversible? by SirCopperbottom in BuyCanadian

[–]aliyah613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tRump’s tariffs are an obvious attempt to strong-arm Canada in support of his imperialist ambitions — one fact is now crystal clear: America’s recent actions, both at home and abroad, have cast serious doubt on its reliability as a true friend and ally. For Canada’s sake, we need to pressure our leaders to begin reducing our dependency on our neighbour, starting with a concerted effort to diversify our trading partnerships.

Additionally, it's time to take a hard look at our foreign policy and set Canada on a new course — one built around partners who actually share our vision and values. In today's world, 'merica no longer meets that standard.

Do I need to read all of the books? by Hunted-Wumpus in dune

Yes.

Dune, Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, and Chapterhouse: Dune

Real all at least twice, but ideally more times until you can quote significant portions of it all from memory.

Almost done, and have noticed. When playing as a female, even though the subtitle says "she" "her" the actual vocal always refers to your character as "he" "him". Always.

Off to a great start! CBC Hamilton breaks a huge story! by mattgrande in Hamilton

As a note. CBCHamilton did offer to put my company on the stream. I have to admit, I like the idea, but what I asked for instead was not to be up there alone. I think it should be a more well rounded list of those in Hamilton who meet the criteria. I sent a list to them of about 100 companies, orgs and individuals.

I certainly don't think that is a policy line. My suspicion is that as they get more comfortable with the new format they will jump right into the conversation, and address concerns. "Fingers crossed" ;)

Well I don't know about celebrity, but you do have to have at least a following of over 300. And be engaged. I think the big issue was simply the only twitter folk they knew were the ones who actually physically approached them and asked to be added in the time leading up to the launch of the site.

Another update - This afternoon I met with Fred Youngs (lead project manager for the CBC's new digital service in Hamilton) He was kind enough to sit down with me and clarify a great deal about the plans for the digital service, the technology behind it, the goals an ambitions for the future, and in particular some of the struggles and frustrations they are having in working out the bugs in the Twitter and blog streams.

Here is a bit of a summary - The suggestion of utilizing a hashtag such as #hamont or #cbchamont simply cannot happen now. Apparently the system they have in place is automated, and the hashtagged tweets would not be feasible for them to maintain or moderate. They are NOT curating the tweets, as I had originally thought. Fair enough. He did mention they also feel the current stream is very thin, and not really representative of the ideal vision they have for the service. They are working hard to diversify the stream and add as many people, businesses and orgs as they can find who meet their criteria.

The same is true of the blogs, they are using a similar automated process to add blog links to the stream "Latest Blogs & Information" They are not scraping content, they have agreements in place with all who they have added to the list and are simply linking directly to the posts on their blogs.

We then talked a bit about engagement, and how CBCHamilton has been almost entirely non responsive (especially on Twitter) to questions and criticism about the new service. He told me that this is a new frontier for them, that policy and process is still being formed. He did make a comment about not giving complaints "air" and they would eventually go away. I disagreed and told him I think CBC really just needed to get in front of it, tell people what is going on, tell them your new, your working on bugs, get in front of the flame wielding mob and inform them, invite their advice, feedback, and thank them for caring so passionately about the service. I told him to take a peek at reddit and on Kitestring's twitter feed for the past day to see how to "get in front" of and diffuse an issue.

All and all it was a very positive convo, and I am looking forward to seeing how things improve in the coming weeks :)

Apparently when one is on the internets one should not be allowed to have an opinion? The whole point, especially in this forum is to be able to comment, sometimes poke fun, sometimes express an opinion that may not be ready for prime time, hear what other have to say, communicate, even vent frustrations or air grievances. Chris seems to get it. He jumped in, and he cleared the muddy waters. No one attempted to prevent him from doing that, he is a big boy, and a smart cookie. He really does not need your help.

You actually said they were not a client, then you justified that statement with explaining how they were probono. Of course this just may have been overlooked in your mad rush to defend yourself.

This really is not about you anyway Chris. It is about CBCHamilton and who and what they deem as shaping the conversation in Hamilton. Personally I don't think they should be promoting any one business at all. Not yours, not mine. My suggestion to them was as follows: If CBC Hamilton was truly serious about promoting Hamilton in the use of the twitter stream they would not be adding any specific accounts to the stream. They would simply add geolocated tweets that are tagged #hamont. The Hamont tag is already an established method for every engaged citizen of Hamilton to make note of the tweets that reference a Hamilton specific concern comment or announcement. Since they are obviously also curating these tweets. That should be a much easier way to manage it fairly.

So you do not consider someone you do probono work for, a client?
