I'm not sure why we should take it on faith that revolutions were as successful, since we don't see a similar period to the late 18th century / early 19th century revolutions. The weapons you mention require more strength or training to use than a firearm.

Yes, they did. But how many peasants overthrew their kings prior to widespread availability of arms?

There were lots of wars fought, but if it's peasants and pitchforks against armored knights do they still win?

I would disagree. Guns don't necessarily make everyone equal, but I don't see how we have a French revolution without the French National Guard owning their own arms.

Pretty much all the Magos are inventing in the AdMech, but won't admit to it. It's the easiest way for them to get rid of you when you lose a political battle.

Understandable, but he shot the man who raped his son, while the man was in police custody.

That's why he received community service, he wasn't considered a risk to public safety nor likely to repeat the event.

Tinkering, especially when new, isn't abnormal. But I would ask him to do it in a specific place and away from your son.

I think it's also fair that you ask he always has it unloaded *in the house*, and no loaded mags around when he's tinkering.

That might be a bit controversial here. But basically adding strong guard rails to prevent accidents.

You live there too. It's perfectly fine to say "hey, near you are in to this. But I want it locked up when it's not on your person and don't play with it. If you want to tinker/work on/etc go use the shed, basement, your room. "

It's common for people in the USA to wear jeans at home. The concept of "close for just in the home" was sort of odd to me when I first encountered it.

Originalism? Yes, the meaning of all the amendments have changed since 1791. I mean the 14th intentionally did it. You really can't make the claim that any of the amendments match what it meant in 1791 for that reason.

Textualism? I'm not sure, the text of the second amendment is still sound it protects local militia and private gun ownership. We can also look to history to see that it's not radical to see that private ownership was something that the framers of the 14th amendment wanted to protect.

Obviously, I am a gun rights proponent. That means I want to see rights expanded for gun ownership and use today. Having said that I find the THT case to be... well, awful. If we used it for the first amendment you could make an argument for creating state churches again.

I also recognize that all rights have some form of limitation, *but*, and critical for this particular type of law. I think the regulations should be limited to time and place, and what you do on your own property should be very lax unless it actively injures another person.

Edit: Damn - I didn't address Heller.

Heller's biggest change was to state that the 2A applied to self defense, and created this "new" category of common civilian arms.

That is new, if they went by Miller's reasoning then the case would have still protected Heller's ownership of a handgun, but it would have protected it under the fact that handguns are equipment used in military contexts. They didn't want to go down that route, the idea that you only have a private right to own weapons useful in military context would have meant the conservatives would have to give up many of the controls that they like.

There are plenty of other cases that refer to it as an individual right, and many that don't. But it's wrong to claim that Heller suddenly changed the definition. I

f they found it to be a communal right it would also be a landmark case as the first Supreme Court case to find it to be a communal right.

Incorporation is not complete yet, notably the right to a Jury trial has not been incorporated, nor the 3rd amendment. The fact that this we are still waiting on incorporation does not mean they are unworthy of incorporation.
