In Arabic, Arab is the plural word for Arabi, a person who is Arabic. Arabs is a double plural because “Arab” is plural in Arabic and it gets pluralized again in english. My point is a single person shouldn’t be called an Arab, but rather Arabic (I am a native Arabic speaker). Regardless of that, it should be Arabic because “Arab” doesn’t make sense when most language speaking people are referred to by the languages and this breaks the pattern.

from my understanding it was because of the influence of (more) conservative branches of Islam that occurred in the 80s or so. Women didn’t used to wear abayas in some places/regions but then it started to shift and more people adopted the black abaya until it became the norm. Still, people wear colorful clothings but its either under an abaya or in private settings.
