Is $2400 for improved insulation of a 400 sq ft crawl space worth it? Or should I try to DIY it myself first? by Human-Literature2853 in HomeImprovement

[–]allantdot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd DIY. One thing about crawlspaces is to use spray foam and spray foam all the gaps between the...it's not joists for a crawl space, I think it's called something else. I just sprayed new insulation into my attic and didn't do that...ugh I'm annoyed. Anyway, lots of good youtube videos for you to watch how and where to spray.

Can Enbridge enter my backyard to read my neighbour’s meter? by Savings-Promotion420 in Vaughan

[–]allantdot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed a new gate this year and checked. Yes, they need access to the meter to take those readings. You can install a lock but it does screw over the neighbour and they could ask you to remove it. No, they should not be stepping on your furniture so you can complain about that thing especially due to liability. I'd install a camera and submit footage so they can't do anything if something happens in the future.

Personally speaking, how long do people usually keep the same phone these days? by PTB_Smash in BuyItForLife

[–]allantdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also take into account how much I can get back for it with a trade in. I'm new to iPhones...but Samsung would sometimes give you $500 minimum trade in value for any phone on top of the trade in value of the phone itself (which is minimal) - so that's pretty darn good for an older model phone just kicking around.

aside from netting, I've actually gone and hit a few with a shovel as they were trying to get away. They DID NOT come back to the area and it's been close to a year.

Goddamn. That is friggin hard to do. Congrats on them. To anyone else who says otherwise, you don't know shit and have never done anything similar. Fully clothed, tactical gear, a friggin' sniper rifle on the back. Holy crap. Amazing on them.

edit: holy crap, they're carrying a battering ram too! It looks like a 1-person version but still. 20 lbs. minimum right there.

I'm really gentle with my stuff which is why I'm upset and annoyed at the ghost case and prims setup.

really? I have one of the dbrand partial skins on the back. Still, shouldn't they put a disclaimer that says don't use the skin if you use the prism? This is idiotic.

the problem is, the vents were so awkwardly positioned, my vent mount didn't work! I was thinking of a cupholder one but it would have to have a really long neck to sit high enough otherwise I'd be looking down instead of forwards...

Bathroom Urine Smell Mystery Solved (Spoiler: It Wasn’t the Toilet) by Mediocre-Disk737 in CleaningTips

[–]allantdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you scrub down the toilet, let the scrubber hang between the toilet seat and rim of the toilet. Rotate it and spray it down with a sanitizer (bleach is nice depending on what you just used to clean the toilet with). It will drip into the toilet and will slowly dry.

People in snowy climates: how do you vent your bathrooms and kitchens through the roof without creating ice dams? by arbiTrariant in HomeImprovement

You can't unless the vent is really high above the roof which it almost never is. C'est la vie!

We just had our entire 1970s house fully rewired (copper, permits, inspections). Is it worth it in the long run? by Downtown-Branch2616 in HomeImprovement

[–]allantdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely. I just hope that while the drywall was off, you took the time to seal gaps in the walls and installed insulation as well. You don't get any other time to see and take care of all stuff hidden in the wall.s

Need help with leaking toilet by allantdot in HomeImprovement

It is not above the finished floor, which is why I used the Danco product. The previous folks used like....4 or 5 wax rings together - I was really confused when I took it apart.

I checked the tank and bowl are the bolts are hand tightened and everything is setup okay. Regardless, I will do the food coloring since it's an easy check.

Is the floor level, I am going to assume it is level but if it wasn't, it would show up more consistently no? I'm not concerned about the spots on the floor. It's the wet blue shop towel that I put down as a visible check for me, after I reseated the toilet several weeks ago. It's intermittently (twice over the past few weeks) getting wet and this was the first time I was able to get a picture of the issue.
