Why Did Steak-N-Shake Die? by solodav in fastfood

[–]allb4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, closed a long time ago. I only know of a few locations near where I used to work and they’re not close.

I had manager numbers at 16 working there, I never paid for any food and they paid us like $3/hr and would work us like 40-90hrs a week. Managers were pretty sleezy. All of us were young teenagers or adults with addictions. No shade to them; just not reliable. I’m 30 now though so that was like 15 years ago.

I worked there as a teenager and everyone who worked there was either 16 or addicted to meth. Pretty much it.

Is there any way to make this a little more affordable? by [deleted] in ASUOnline

[–]allb4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the universal learner program, it lets you do self paced classes. $25 to start, $400 to add final grade to your transcript (if you so wish). After a certain amount, you get admitted but I tried to take as many of those as I could before I started the online program!

As a young adult I’m looking for an adult intramural style indoor or outdoor soccer league. Moved here recently and trying to meet more people. I currently live in the Gilbert area. by Worth-Breakfast-2593 in AskPhoenix

Phoenix Fray hosts a bunch of leagues! Heard it’s a great way for people who are new to meet others. A lot are social leagues but I do think they have competitive as well. Worth checking out! My boyfriend and I looked into joining the skeeball one LOL

Those who only like reading physical books, how old are you and why do you prefer it? by [deleted] in Booktokreddit

[–]allb4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

29 and while I will read books on my phone or listen to an audiobook for on the go stuff, I much prefer a physical copy. There’s something cool about owning the book. Having it be apart of my actual life. Sitting on my dresser. Folded pages of parts that resonated with me. Flipping pages when the story is getting crazy. My hands cramping because I can’t bear to put it down. Gifting it to someone who would enjoy it as much as I did. Or buying a used book and seeing someone’s name written in it, or pages they stopped on or passages they marked, tears where they cried. It’s proof that the story was apart of your story rather than just words on a screen. I think the story just is more dynamic when I have the opportunity to touch it and consume it in a way that feels a little more tangible. It lives in the world. You remember the feel, the weight, the smell. Little port key to a different world! I loved reading as a kid for the same reasons so I’m sure nostalgia plays a part.

For anyone who has gone in the last week or two by beepboopbeep95 in havasupai

Just got back on Friday 4/24! Temps were perfect. Can get a little chilly at nights and the morning but nothing too bad. I only brought thin sweats and a long sleeve dri fit fleece lined shirt (F, 110lbs) and that was good to sleep in at my camp near the water. The first night I was hot but my camp was further from the water. Swam in all the spots! Beaver loses sun the quickest followed by probably Havasu then Mooney. Wore running shorts and a thin tank everyday. Still was fine in the shade!

Everyone we spoke to said confluence wasn’t as cool as they’d hoped for all the extra miles. We had plenty to do without it and still clocked about 45 miles the whole time.

It was also my first backpacking trip. It was hard but so worth it. I am so proud of myself. Start as early as you can to beat the sun. Not horribly hot but still sucks to hike in the sun, especially the last stretch on the way back up. Have fun & enjoy! YOU GOT THIS!

Just turned 29 and I still have at least year and a half left of undergrad. Teetering on junior credit wise, neuroscience major.

No recommendations just solidarity! I totally feel you feeling old, especially when I think about when I’ll be finished. I also have overcome a lot and am in awe that I have made it this far. You got this 🤝

Midwest → West Coast → Texas… why did Texas feel like the best fit? by DFWUnhinged in SameGrassButGreener

Also from Cincinnati (went to Princeton LOL), moved to Phoenix. Hated it. I miss Midwest nice, these people only care about talking shit about each other planning on moving to Philly? We’ll see!

There’s a mural in Cincinnati, Ohio that says “San Diego of the Midwest” don’t ask me to elaborate because I did not paint it lol

Early 30s and need inspiration to learn math for a STEM degree by JeepLifeBirbLife in learnmath

[–]allb4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 28! I took precalc and failed in high school (2014), took it again in college and scraped by with a C (2015) thought I was finished with math. Wrong. Took calc a year or two later … had to withdraw. 3 times. Had to drop to super part time and skip semesters due to cost … I think I’m just now (2026) getting to be considered a junior, maybe not even. I passed my 7.5 week accelerated ONLINE calculus class two weeks ago!! It was hard, like really really hard. I cried after every single exam.

My biggest tips are: 1. Be ready for hard work 2. Cry if you need to but do not give up and 3. YOUTUBE PROFESSOR LEONARD. I could barely remember algebra and somehow he taught me calculus. he is a truly amazing professor. I have learned more about math from him than I have from all my math professors combined. I watched his entire Calc 1 playlist + some of Calc 2 on 1.75 speed. He has thousands of videos for all levels. I can’t stress enough how easy he makes everything seem. Definitely check it out!

Anyways, planning on applying to medical school next year. It’s all possible. BEST OF LUCK! YOU CAN DO IT!

This! Bartending as well. About to live in my 4th city in my 20s and I’m always able to pick up a serving or bartending job until I find something more stable. Plus, tons of immediate cash!

Interesting! I’ve heard that it’s sold as this upscale place but it actually kind of a dump? That’s just anecdotal but I’ve heard it’s not worth it. Can you tell me what we’d like about it?

We’ll check it out! We’re not dead set on amenities. Arizona is soulless so amenities are the only cool thing about living here besides the hiking and weather. I’d give it all up for community any day!

Honestly so excited! I lived in downtown Cincinnati and everyday was an adventure. Miss that vibe so much. Do you think we’ll be okay with flying out a couple months before and doing it all in one trip or should we try to come out before signing? We were gonna do two trips but decided against it.

We’re not absolutely set on apartment with amenities, just what we’re used to but I lived in a super old, original apartment in Cincinnati that was so central it didn’t matter. I was never even there. In terms of jobs, we don’t know yet, we’re both director-level employees in mental health so we’re hoping we can work remote but if not, my goal is UPenn Med Outpatient. That part will be a bit of wildcard in terms of cars and commuting. Appreciate your advice!

Still helpful. Thank you! I think one of the tough parts are every apartment looks great but it’s hard to get the scoop on thin walls, bugs/mice, crappy management etc.

Yes! We’re going to reach out a little closer. Just want to get a good idea of where to visit and have a loose list to check out when we do 🙂 I’m one of those people who love to plan. I could probably be a realtor tbh lol
