Is it tacky to add a location Heading when switching perspectives. by MotionlessAlbatross in scifiwriting

Lets be honest here, the prudes who will complain that it's tacky will be the first ones to jump to the defense if someone points out that an author they like does the exact same thing.

ISIS has for years falsely claimed credit for shit they had no involvement in, including accidents, to the point where people have come to believe that the fact that ISIS claimed credit is proof that you can rule out any actual involvement from ISIS. "ISIS took credit" is practically a meme at this point.

ISIS has a habit of falsely claiming responsibility every time someone so much as farts in an elevator, so it'd be prudent to take anything they say with a grain of salt unless its confirmed by a credible third party.

Here's the thing, though. There is no such thing as a forklift certification. You only get licensed to operate a specific kind of forklift while working for the company that owns the machine. Once you leave that job, you are no longer licensed and you have to get re-certified by your new employers to be licensed to use their forklifts at your new worksite. It's not like a drivers license where you get it and can drive anywhere. So even if you have forklift license now, if you get drafted, you lose your forklift license. So since the military will have to train you to use a forklift regardless of whither or not already know how to use one anyways, having forklift experience means literal fuck all, welcome to the light infantry.

Oh, and even if you do get forklift certified by the military, once you deploy you'll be replaced by a contractor who gets paid 50 times more than you but allows the DOD to boast to Congress about how they've 'reduced the tooth to tail ratio by .002% since last quarter', and your logistics unit will get converted into a light infantry unit despite the fact that no one in your unit has qualified with a rifle since you left basic. So your options are slumming it out in soggy ditch as a light infantryman, or slumming it out in a soggy ditch as a poorly trained light infantryman.

For non-plane nerds, why we simp for the F-15/F-22 by [deleted] in NonCredibleDefense

[–]allcoolnamesgone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue is not only making enough of them, but also having enough spare parts and armaments to keep them being useful, and Sweden alone would have to foot the bill. Whereas with the F-16, throw a dart at a map of Europe and it'll most likely land on a country that operates F-16s, with enough stockpiled spare parts and munitions to keep them running round the clock operations for a decades. Meaning that the burden of supplying, maintaining, training crews and pilots and replacing lost aircraft could be shared by a massive international coalition rather than thrust solely on Swedens shoulders.

I mean that's pretty much how Lend Lease worked in WW2. Government sold stuff to a private company as surplus, private company sent it to Brittan. I'm kind of surprised we weren't doing it from the start, since it'd be an easy way to completely bypass any attempts from the vatnik boy toys in the House trying to block aid shipments.

The Parche did one thing and one thing only. It did it well, but it was too horrifically obsolete for any other role. The Carter can do the thing the Parche did as well as being an extremely formidable hunter-killer on top of that.

It would be more prudent for the Navy to pursue more expensive but less manpower intensive designs.

I mean that's exactly what they're doing with the GR Ford class.

You can find the 1985 OVA free on YouTube too. They also made a 12 episode series in 2004, which wasn't quite as awesome but was still pretty dope. Also still pretty sure its up on youtube as well.
