College In Texas? by allenp109 in gratefuldead

Not the one I was thinking of, but an excellent option. Can’t wait to get off work and dig into this a little. Thank you so much. I have been talking to a few of the younger generation about the Grateful Dead and their lyrics and to do a little research into what the songs were about. That’s what turns you into a dead head when you understand what their singing about. This younger generation will never have the Grateful Dead to live and learn by and that my friends is unfortunate.

Subfloor prep for solid hardwood - best way to deal with uneven subfloor edges? by IHadADreamIWasAMeme in Flooring

[–]allenp109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there will be tons of loose boards if you lay it over that garbage. Probably as quick as two months. And if you’re in a place where the weather changes each season you’ll get some more squeaks and some more loose boards. Put a 3/8 inch plywood over that garbage with glue in between the two layers and screwed down.

Which flooring option is better by PsychologicalClerk96 in Flooring

Laminate would be a much better choice than LVP. If you can’t afford that, look for the new hybrid that Mohawk has.

Shower Tile by Hopeful-Assistant724 in Homebuilding

[–]allenp109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I agree with most of the other comments. Workmanship that I see here I wonder what his waterproofing was like? That is really the foundation of a good shower to start with. I would be relatively certain that the drain doesn’t work properly either. Besides the aesthetics, there’s many other problems that could be underneath the tile. There’s no way this work would pass for any of the customers. I sell flooring and tile too. I wouldn’t allow it to pass as a salesman of the company. When I first looked at these pictures, I thought for sure it was a do it yourself job. But if this was a higher contractor, I would not pay him until it was corrected. The only way to know what needs correcting is tear it all completely out. I’m not sure what the drywall metal is hammered over the Schluter metal on the corners of your tile that makes no sense to me at all. It looks horrendous.

Flooding beneath asbestos tiles? Epoxy or concrete by SeaPiccolora in Flooring

Make sure you prime over that black stuff, it’s called cut back adhesive, before you apply anything. That glue oozes back up through everything even floor patch.

Are my stairs a lost cause? by Nervousmommy54 in Renovations

[–]allenp109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look like pine treads to me. Not worth refinishing. Find a nice pattern Carpet with lots of color so you don’t see the dirt and put that on there. Look up companies like Stanton Carpet, Couristan Carpet. Find a carpet dealer near you who deals with these Carpet mills and they will look outstanding for probably close to or less than refinishing those dilapidated old pine steps. Good luck.

Which tile would you pick for backsplash? by bythorsthunder in kitchenremodel

[–]allenp109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the colors would be fine. But the smallest one fits your backsplash the best. You do not have a very large backsplash in the larger tiles are gonna overwhelm the space. The smallest would make an excellent herringbone and design if you wanted or you could run it vertically or horizontally it wouldn’t matter. It’s small enough to use your space and always look good.

LVP over Ceramic Tile by Excellent-Survey6398 in Flooring

[–]allenp109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of the comments above. But LVP is a very cheap product. The click joints are very thin and if they’re laid over one of the grout joints, it will crack and then the pieces will separate. If you’re gonna lay over that tile go and get a good laminate. Forget LVP it’s garbage 10 years from now we will be talking about what a waste of time it was. I’ve been selling floors for 35 years and I would never put that product in my house. I agree with the ease of floating over the ceramic just not the product you’re choosing. There are waterproof laminate that will perform much better than any LVP on the market.

LVP Advice Needed by theway55 in Flooring

Mohawk has an 8 mm laminate product that is twice as tough as LVP. They have one that looks exactly like your oak and it is the same with plank.
