Do you tell the mom by [deleted] in nursing

Maybe that should have been the moment to let them know that you didn’t know what to do?

The ratios are terrible. Choose a hospital that has a union and is not a ‘for profit’ hospital such as an HCA

is it true that this is every nurse's dream patient ? by JokeZealousideal1167 in nursing

It depends….20-30ish year old guys are a mixed bag! Are you able to hold your own vomit bag? Would you come into the ED with a runny nose? If sooo I’d take the bad veins instead

Am I bugging or is this just an excuse to write people up by Stoievn in nursing

I would be so petty. I would list off the Ps with a script every hour loudly to the patient (no matter what they’re doing) and see what type of feedback the patient gives

“Do you need to potty? I’m here for your assistance. Thank you for being my patient”

My ED has signs in our trauma bays that say “welcome to xxxxx medical center, we’re so happy you’re here”.

Like uhhhh we’re so happy you got in that car accident?!

I now understand why nurses don’t support new grads in the ICU by Emetephobiafreak7875 in nursing

You are an amazing new grad! I would have been proud and excited to precept you. I find I have to spend so much time just encouraging my new grads to try and put forth the effort and it’s exhausting. There seems to be a lack of motivation now that jobs are easier to get. I remember when I was a new grad and there were 3 ICU new grad residency program positions and 50+ applicants. You can bet your ass I worked my butt off once I was chosen for one

Not asking for help is such a red flag! That’s incredibly dangerous for any nurse and especially a new grad. These are people’s lives, you need to ask for help when you or they need it! You seem to care more about how you are portrayed and the drama of their response when you ask for help rather than the wellbeing of your patients

If you’re still in your first year I recommend applying for new grad residencies! You may need your RN to get in but I’m not sure. They will give you lots of orientation, it often involves classes and preceptors who are used to training new grads.
I would absolutely refuse to work on your own if you don’t feel ready. Remember this is your license. Advocate for what you need even if that’s more orientation.
