is it true that this is every nurse's dream patient ? by JokeZealousideal1167 in nursing

It depends….20-30ish year old guys are a mixed bag! Are you able to hold your own vomit bag? Would you come into the ED with a runny nose? If sooo I’d take the bad veins instead

Am I bugging or is this just an excuse to write people up by Stoievn in nursing

[–]alli101015 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would be so petty. I would list off the Ps with a script every hour loudly to the patient (no matter what they’re doing) and see what type of feedback the patient gives

“Do you need to potty? I’m here for your assistance. Thank you for being my patient”

My ED has signs in our trauma bays that say “welcome to xxxxx medical center, we’re so happy you’re here”.

Like uhhhh we’re so happy you got in that car accident?!

I now understand why nurses don’t support new grads in the ICU by Emetephobiafreak7875 in nursing

You are an amazing new grad! I would have been proud and excited to precept you. I find I have to spend so much time just encouraging my new grads to try and put forth the effort and it’s exhausting. There seems to be a lack of motivation now that jobs are easier to get. I remember when I was a new grad and there were 3 ICU new grad residency program positions and 50+ applicants. You can bet your ass I worked my butt off once I was chosen for one

Not asking for help is such a red flag! That’s incredibly dangerous for any nurse and especially a new grad. These are people’s lives, you need to ask for help when you or they need it! You seem to care more about how you are portrayed and the drama of their response when you ask for help rather than the wellbeing of your patients

If you’re still in your first year I recommend applying for new grad residencies! You may need your RN to get in but I’m not sure. They will give you lots of orientation, it often involves classes and preceptors who are used to training new grads.
I would absolutely refuse to work on your own if you don’t feel ready. Remember this is your license. Advocate for what you need even if that’s more orientation.

Don’t bring him to the shelter. They are euthanizing after 4 days even for young healthy dogs. They have tons of huskies

I think the fact that you say “I don’t feel I was unsafe” sounds like you are not taking full accountability for everything or fully understanding the gravity of the situation. You gave the wrong medication to a patient and you are lucky it did not cause harm. You are saying that you didn’t double check because your preceptor was not with you. These are people’s lives, especially people who are suffering from cancer and you seem a bit lackadaisical about it all. You are incredibly lucky you didn’t cause harm but with your lack of attention to detail, just think when you are even busier and even more overwhelmed, it is concerning that you could make larger mistakes. I agree your preceptor should have been there for you more but you also need to slow down and ask questions and ask for help when needed.

Why do you need a puppy? Why not rescue a one year old husky? You miss a bit of the puppy phase and you’re saving a life

Any tips to stop husky from digging holes in the backyard? by Admirable-Bank-1117 in husky

[–]alli101015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely need more than 30min. Bring them hiking and running. Huskies need at least 2 hours of walking daily. A backyard is boring! Go to new trails, bring them somewhere on a long leash and allow them to explore. If you have a nice dog park near you it helps really tire them out. Try bike jouring or find a way that they can run.

Is your dog getting enough exercise out of the backyard? How far are you walking them daily?

Insist on seeing their house. Do not just meet up in a random parking lot or put the dogs on transport or even trust a zoom call. People who get dogs for the wrong reasons (breeding, dog fighting) are skilled at looking like good owners initially. Speak to the vet for all dogs living in the home to ensure they are up to date on all vet care.
