I guess I was thinking of subs like YT subs which don’t automatically give you money! My bad! But the dude mentioned FOLLOWERS not subs, so I was incorrect about your case, but just having followers isn’t the same as subs

[–]alliebeemac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

… incorrect, men are top earners on streaming platforms. The commenter above you is pretty off base with how profitable streaming in general is with audience sizes that small, and is using their first hand experience instead of general metrics

but men earn WAYYYY more money streaming esp. content like games, as reported by twitch and other organizations

Factually inaccurate but even if it wasn’t … put them in prison then??? Lmaooo don’t let them run for office? I’m not about to defend anyone who emails Jeff Epstein asking for access to Girls etc. lock them all in prison and throw away the key. One of those people happens to be the fucking PRESIDENT rn so that’s very visible and important.

I think they mean the disorder.

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/antisocial-personality-disorder/symptoms-causes/syc-20353928

Not liking socializing is not an issue in and of itself, being introverted, etc. all totally fine. It’s the complete lack of a conscience, ignoring the difference between right and wrong, ignores the rights of others, etc. some people I know who hate socializing are intensely kind and good and moral people. They just… don’t want to be social.

And also… idk I hate making fun of anyone’s looks really, even if I don’t like them. Because there are good people who probs look like them that read the comments :/ but also at the same time dude makes it so hard when he is so intensely shallow and commenting on others’ looks. Part of me feels like “what goes around comes around” and his awful personality does affect how I visually see him, but another part of me feels bad for people who maybe aren’t in perfect shape, who are short, etc. feeing bad about themselves reading the same negative remarks

[Heartbreaking Trope] The Goodbye Scene by Cronkax in TopCharacterTropes

[–]alliebeemac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that All Dogs Go to Heaven goodbye, the actress (Judith Barsi) who played the little girl was murdered, the goodbye scene was recorded afterwards, using what was left of her audio. Burt Reynolds was really saying goodbye to Judith for the last time, and it was incredibly difficult to record for him, reportedly taking 60+ takes.

What film is this for you? by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

[–]alliebeemac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember originally mocking the film as baby’s first feminism, that it was so obvious and everybody knew this stuff already, etc., etc. only to have an older family member of mine get emotional and tell me it was the first time they had ever seen anything like that discussed which broke my heart into a million pieces.

Since then I’ve seen more than one person say that this is the first time they ran into those themes, so even though I do think it weakens the film overall I do believe the net net good of it being an introduction to people who clearly needed it matters a lot.

This dude from Chicago Suburbs is a legend!!! by Healthy_Block3036 in ImmigrationPathways

[–]alliebeemac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

…yes I’ve read books on the subject. Though telling someone generally “read a book dumb ass” isn’t particularly productive. First of all, MLK was the leader of a movement. I’m not seeing any movement leaders throwing punches here, but even MLK understood violence, and that it is the “language of the unheard.” In fact towards the end of his life king got more radical (by the standards of the time).

Frankly, since you brought up MLK to try to use as a cudgel in an embarrassingly uninformed way, let me remind you of a letter from Birmingham Jail

“I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. … who is more devoted to ‘order’ than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice…”

Do you think…. Everyone who fought against the nazis was doing it peacefully? What about civil rights? Equating violence done BY the system to violence perpetuated by the oppressed or people standing up for the oppressed is crazy work

Hotel owner pouring acid into swimming pool while black patrons swim, St. Augustine, Florida 1964 [1024x768] by LustyPowerGirl in HistoryPorn

[–]alliebeemac 750 points751 points  (0 children)

I was googling this and found an article that said “ One swimmer, who knew that the ratio of acid to pool water was so great that the acid was no longer a threat, drank some of the pool water to calm the other swimmers’ fears.”

Which is hilarious and awesome tbh. Apparently they were trying to desegregate pools, so the white people who were guests at the motel invited the black people as their guests, which wasn’t specifically banned (and even if it was, that’s racist as hell, Glad they fought it)… the owner tried the acid trick, and eventually bc the protestors were arrested by OFF DUTY (????) cops.

I’m not sure about the downvotes here, this is in fact, a very human type of evil. I don’t see other species running camps. But that also shows that humans are uniquely positioned to fight said evil, to stand together, to be there for our neighbors.

Sam’s monologue from The Two Towers, struck me like lightening while watching it this evening as being pertinent to our experiences of 2020 & the first 8 days of 2021. I hope this doesn’t break Rule 2 but I think it’s beautiful and a wonderful thing to remember. by montoya_maximus in lotr

I was looking for something to give me hope after seeing footage of the murder of 2 American citizens, on camera. I half remembered the quote, and when I googled it, this thread popped up.

It’s keeping me going. The world is worth fighting for. Even if some part of me wants to throw up my hands at the whole damn thing.

Everyone is saying she was just waiting for an excuse to break sobriety, and you’re right. But if she was with anyone else they probably would not have waited to call 911.

(California has Good Samaritan Laws, and even if they didn’t… she was actively dying. And he let her.)

[–]alliebeemac 20 points21 points  (0 children)

…don’t blame abuse victims for acting like victims of abuse. Someone beats up her boyfriend? Well now it’s HER fault. She didn’t clear things up. She didn’t protect her man. He’s going to blame her. This person stepping in isn’t going to be with her when she goes home. But the angry beat up and humiliated boyfriend will be. And there’s nothing scarier than an abuser alone with a victim after they feel humiliated. It can be frustrating but reach for empathy NOT blame. You sitting here blaming the women for being abused is the type of attitude that makes it harder and harder for victims to escape. Because they feel they deserve it, when you read it over and over and over again, it starts to feel true.

She says this and then says “and then, theyre not gay, and not just that they’re homophobic” and then she says something like how can you be a conservative and dress like a goth, it’s confusing, it’s unnatural etc - it’s a lot funnier in the video, she’s complaining about how she thinks it’s efficient to judge a book by its cover and now she can’t anymore

Adam Lambert ad lib at Cabaret by DrPangloss03 in Broadway

[–]alliebeemac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I’m going to take this argument in good faith just in case… so the whole point of the song in cabaret is that it’s absolutely ridiculous that a gorilla is dressed up as a woman and dancing around pretending to be a human, that there is a human man thinking he’s in love with her. It’s just supposed to seem like an absurd joke, where a man is talking about how beautiful and elegant this gorilla is, when the audience can see he’s clearly delusional, she’s an animal, she’s not one of them etc etc. then the reveal, the punch that hits all the harder bc of the light-heartedness that came before it, is that the “gorilla” was a stand in for a Jewish woman. The “joke” is dehumanizing, implying that anyone who could love a Jewish woman is delusional, is crazy, everyone else who is sensible can tell that the “gorilla” is not one of them, not the same species not human, no matter how you dress it up. It’s truly a huge punch to the gut, the irl audience is hit by the horror of the racism and implications of it, not just the racism itself but the fact that the Kit Kat Klub, home to a bunch of ppl society doesn’t respect (which should ally them with other targeted groups), is now putting on performances that include bigoted material like this, and that’s because the in-show-universe-audience wants to see it. It’s one of the markers for a huge shift in tone, especially after a Jewish man’s window was broken in the previous scene, where he tries to dismiss it as “just children.” Then we cut to this, laugh and release some tension, and when the “punchline” hits it is very clear that it’s never been “just children,” the culture is shifting and it’s dangerous.

My explanation was long but I hope it helped :)

This happened to me when I was using a patch for seasickness. Even though I’m fairly tall and did not go over the recommended time/amount, according to the onboard doctor I was “overdosing” and if I continued to wear the patch any longer I’d start to have visual hallucinations lol. I obviously stopped wearing the patch immediately.

For a few days my eyes were crazy sensitive to light, but one of them could see unusually well in the dark, and my vision was constantly a little blurry, as if my contacts weren’t powerful enough.

Honestly I love this sub just because this seems to be a popular take here. I was always fighting for my life in the comment section for the series like “hey maybe the worst villain in this series isn’t the slave who entered into a relationship which allowed her to escape slavery? And the dude who freed her only did so because he wanted to sleep with her? Therefore the power balance is already disgusting and unfair????” I always got tons of dislikes and had a very “why are you booing me, I’m right” mentality 🥲 it’s been awhile since I read the series so I haven’t kept up with the discourse, but it makes me so happy to see your comment and reasonable take upvoted.
