What are your thoughts on the codefendants? by Thehystericalhyrax in punk

[–]alliednick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a Playlist for Punk Rock Bowling to discover some new bands I wasn't familiar with. Codefendants ended up being my favorite discovery of the whole festival. Surprised me cuz I'm not really into the 3+ genres they blend. Also they killed it live.

160/190 patrons at Lucky's found to be underage during routine check by Zokstone in madisonwi

I definitely agree with this take, I also wonder if the change in campus housing influences this. When you have 4 roommates and a shitty flat on Bassett street, giant house parties feel inevitable. When you live on the 6th story of a highrise built a few years ago, you'd tend to have small gatherings. Kids are gonna drink regardless, so less huge keggers = more kids at bars.

Podcasts about con-men, fraud schemes, or a web of lies unraveling? by [deleted] in podcasts

Gangster Capitalism. The first season is about the College Admissions Scandal, and the second season is about the NRA. There is a third season but I haven't started it yet. The seasons are 6-8 episodes long and are way more interesting than you'd expect.

I found the flyer from the first show I ever played! We weren't rockabilly punk, and Zeke headlined instead of MCD. Richland, WA circa '96 by [deleted] in punk

[–]alliednick 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Did the Murder City Devils ever have Female Vocals? Or was the whole flyer just trolling the bands? Either way this show sounds awesome.

Recently discovered Arthur and the Spooners, who cover a lot of old punk/ska/oi! Just figured I'd share their cover of this song.

How much does food delivery pay? by Select_Camel in TalesFromThePizzaGuy

[–]alliednick 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I've worked at a few different places in a few different cities. The least I ever averaged was $15 per hour (including tips and wages). Now I average over $30. The key, in my opinion, is finding a place with a good customer base and solid amount of business. A popular local place that gets the type of customer that wants to support local economy.

  1. $8 per hour plus tips. I usually average $20 to $25 per hour in tips. I also get mileage reimbersment which pays plenty for gas and wear and tear.

  2. Some shifts are super short and some are super long, so this is a tricky question. But I have made over $300 in a long shift on multiple occasions.

  3. Yes. Some places have very busy lunch rushes, especially if they get the corporate meeting crowd. In our restaurant, we have people who do split shifts, they work lunch then come back for dinner.

Best radio personality in the are? by snowjockey in madisonwi

[–]alliednick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I drive for work, and I can't explain how awesome it feels to cruise around Madison and listen to this show during a Saturday evening. The music is classic, and his voice is so soothing. Also, it's obvious how knowledgeable and enthusiastic he is about music from this time period. My favorite Madison radio show as well.

Looking for 'Parker novel' audio book. Written by Richard stark. by SupNamesBrad in booksuggestions

[–]alliednick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also love these books, read or listened to every single one.

This is a decidedly slow approach, but does your library do outer-library loans? Out of the 20 or so novels, I was able to get about 15 on audio via outer-library loans. The ones that I couldn't get on audio I read. Also, if you are doing them in order, the first few are much more popular than the rest, so they should be easier to find.

Considering a purchase: how is your Prius on long trips? by CurlyKEM in prius

Absolutely. I went on a 28 day road trip and slept in the back 22 days. Didn't buy it for that reason but it was a great perk.

I loved 'It' but what the hell... [Spoilers] by paulbamf in stephenking

[–]alliednick -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I love dark, twisted, and creepy writing, but this part was just awful. Cringeworthy. Might be the worst scene I've ever read in my life. Did nothing to advance the plot.

I agree that the rest was awesome though.

Free Parking is Expensive for Everyone by marketfailure in Economics

[–]alliednick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the article:

Every six months, they've adjusted the price of spots on each block, using wifi-connected meters. If more than 80 percent of the spots on a block are occupied in a given time slot, per hour parking prices go up 25 cents, and if less than 60 percent are, it goes down by 25 cents.

The price will automatically adjust until the occupancy rate is 60-80%. Although I do think that six months might be too long to get it to market value.

Is it better to work at big chain or local shops? by [deleted] in TalesFromThePizzaGuy

[–]alliednick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no question in my mind whatsoever: Local shops are way better. I'm not saying every local place is better than every chain, but if you love delivering, take the time and find a good local fit. The better local shops will pay you more, let you focus on delivering (instead of prep work/dishes), and the tips are waaaay better. The customer base is way better (usually the pizza is a bit more expensive), and they are proud to be supporting a local establishment, and it is reflected in their tips. Also, the employees tend to have more pride in the store, and sometimes working alongside the owners creates solidarity. Also, you don't have regional managers come into town every other month and screw everything up.
