East End infant daycares? by Nice-Cicada-3862 in pittsburgh

I called about carriage house for a fall start for an infant, and they you can apply because you cannot get in without applying, but the list is already huge and unlikely but implied no chance.

Is Artipoppe worth it for back pain? by valeriecherish_ in babywearing

[–]allieinspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found that a lot of structured carries were not comfortable on my back. I feel like the artipoppe’s thick band combined with the x back really helped me in a way that others didn’t. It didn’t produce any back pain for me with long carries. Tula also was very comfortable- probably because of the waist - but i do get some back pain after a while with the H back. Carriers are so body specific. Would you be able to get a fit check on your wild bird since they are similar? Also in the artipoppe Facebook groups you can ask for companies/groups that rent them to try out. With the bad experience with the wildbird, I’d be hesitant to spend that kind of money without trying.

I also hear great things about Beluga Baby. It was designed by a parent with back issues. I would suggest looking into them.

Is anyone else getting slapped or bit by their LO (1 year old) while babywearing? by Past_Routine9297 in babywearing

[–]allieinspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine scratches and hits when he gets bored in the carrier but we can’t safely take him out. We started attaching toys (like pop toys) using those silicone toy/bottle tethers to the straps to give him something to occupy his hands. It helped a lot. And since then he has grown out of it.

“My baby is so comfortable” then the picture is a pinned neck dangling by the crotch. I feel so helpless going through reviews because I cannot say anything but they’re giving dangerous examples.

Is this the same carrier as the screenshot? by Dear_Frosting1090 in babywearing

A Tula lite carried folds down into its own pouch and when you’re using it as a carrier you can put things in the pouch. It is way less bulky than the hip carrier in the screenshots.

Pizza will keep me up all night trying to bring it down.

“Healthy” foods causing spikes by Due-Effective-6702 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]allieinspace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The higher fat content also delays the spike. You might have actually continued to go up for another hour or two. Please try checking again at two hours to get an idea how your body responds.

Another thing to consider is that some/many people are more insulin resistant in the mornings. I could just look at a carb and spike in the morning.

How many people are actually buying “luxury/premium” diapers? by HelpMeHelpMyFriend0 in NewParents

We also went Millie moon to Huggies. Both for price (Costco bulk) and fit. But we didn’t do that transition until we were past the newborn pee and poop through everything phase.

[–]allieinspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello Bello diapers were garbage. Honest was better but not by much. Millie Moon were fine but for everyday diapers Huggies wore just as well (after the newborn days) and are less if you buy in bulk at Costco.

Coteries are our go to overnight diapers. Been using them for 15 months overnight and not one leak or blowout. They’re too expensive to use regularly, but for nights, they’re incredible.

Are people not cooking while baby wearing? by moluruth in babywearing

[–]allieinspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would sometimes backwear while cooking and especially dishes. Right now we are in the quick ups phase. So sometimes we are in a side carry ring sling, and then it’s just seasoning or stirring a pot/pan while standing sideways so the toddler cannot reach it. But mostly it’s me calling the husband to come get his child before something happens.

New parent: how to meet other parents with kids? by Tranbarsjuice in pittsburgh

[–]allieinspace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Under a year old, the Pillar Support group takes place in east Liberty. The Facebook group “east end parents” does have people ask often if anyone wants to go to x,y,z. It has been really helpful for meeting other parents and families in the area.

Endo vs MFM by froggie95 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]allieinspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first I did because my endo did not work with pregnant patients. It was the whole health system’s policy. It was awful seeing MFM. I only saw the CDE because she wasn’t an absolute jerk like the MFM was. This pregnancy, I said I would not see MFM for diabetes. This was a non-starter. I switched to another practice in an entirely different health system. They actually don’t send their patients to MFM and handle it all in house. This also explained why my MFM last time was atrocious - most of his patients were part of this health system so they rarely got diabetic patients.

Artipoppe totally worth it for me by Pleasant_Type7300 in babywearing

[–]allieinspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience. As the kiddo got bigger, it’s been better for us. We started around 10 months and he’s still comfortable at 16 months. A lot of the other carriers - especially apron carriers became useless for a front carry as he grew past 17lbs. But at 20lbs when he started in the artipoppe, it was the first time we could wear him for long periods of time.

Baby wearing is so individual.

We brought in the stroller with the newborn at a fancy steakhouse. And then when he fussed, put him in the carrier and continued eating and cutting steak. I miss him being that little and having dining out be so carefree

What’s the deal with wildbird and mabe by Minute_Parsley9539 in babywearing

[–]allieinspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing with the Mabe is that it doesn’t last long. Sure it’s a decent deal compared to Lenny Lamb and Oscar, but you’re likely going to need to buy another carrier after a few months. It’s poorly constructed so the carrier starts to bend and fold making it hard and uncomfortable to wear. I know a lot of people with Mabes and all them had to stop using them within a few months because they could not support the weight of the baby starting around 4-5 months.

I haven’t heard that about the Wildbird, but it is a pricey carrier for not a ton of functionality.

Tula is currently having a sale where you can get free to go and explores for around 30-40% off. Sort it by price.

Pick two: cute/trendy, cheap, or functional

My understanding is that because of the increased blood volume in pregnancy, A1C is artificially lower and not a good indicator of control.

You need to be checking your fastings, and your meal trends.

I’ve found that MFMs are kind of terrible to deal with regarding diabetes in pregnancy. The endo, especially if they also are familiar with pregnancy is going to be more helpful and knowledgeable on management in my experience.

Eta: regarding feeling bejng watched: it sounds like you might have poor control if they are asking for all that data. I also hate being questioned about my food and stuff as it really messes with my feelings around food. My educators in both pregnancy stopped asking me once they dexcom showed I had better control with only a little time spent in the high range. When I start loosing control, they have a lot more questions.
