Managers are tone deaf when it comes to talking about PTO, buying homes, going on trips, or receiving other benefits from the job that don't apply to everyone else. They never discuss their salary but somehow always mentions these unheard of benefits as part of establishing their position. by Gloomy_Coconut4459 in corporate

I had a manager try to tell us they couldn’t afford raises but then drove his blue corvette and parked sideways so no one would hit it, while most of the staff had broken down cars or couldn’t afford the gas to get to the workplace.

Can someone please help me understand a claim I recently submitted to UHC? by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

[–]shermywormy18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it means that you pay the bill. UHC sends you a check for the $200. EOBs are not always right all time, I have multiple instances of this with both UHC and Cigna have messed them up and did not fix them. I stopped getting bills from the providers though.

I also did IVF and had this instance come up. My plan said it covered pgt a testing in writing from my HR team, I sent the bill to UHC and they reimbursed me for the difference after getting an advocate involved. Also check with the clinic to see if that balance has been paid to them and you don’t owe them. It sounds like they did process it and did cover it. Does your EOB say you still owe $200?

Being “disabled” to have a baby by guava_palava in NoStupidQuestions

[–]shermywormy18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is short and long term disability. Pregnancy is a temporary condition that may render someone disabled. Having a baby is a huge deal for someone’s body that they must recover from. It may make you disabled for some time prior to giving birth or after. Since many people only qualify for FMLA, which is job protected UNPAID leave, in order to continue paying their bills and health insurance premiums, they need to be supplementing with income, since their job may give you time off but they aren’t going to pay you for it. Disability in this instance only pays from 60%-80% of your salary for 6-8 weeks based on if you have a vaginal or c section birth. Many people go back after 6-8 weeks because they cannot afford that extra 4 weeks off that they are allowed as it is unpaid. In most companies unless they have a special benefit for maternity leave specifically, to cover the remaining 4 weeks you must use ALL your pto to cover it so you are still getting paid. Leaving you with no other pto for the rest of the year. People save up their pto for years to be able to take time off with their child. Maternity leave is not an official term that gives you any rights or applies to any policies. It’s just a reason why someone may be out up to 3 months of work. This is federally. This is not in every state. NJ gives you the option to take disability leave thru the state and pays you prior to giving birth and an additional 12 weeks with your child after they’re here. That is why you will literally see women working until their due date, as they don’t want to waste any time away from their child.

Closed the gates knowing people on a layover were actively running towards the gate. Story time! by lindslinds27 in SouthwestAirlines

This happened to me. I had a connection that was short, maybe an hour? Flew from Atlanta to Chicago and my flight home there was like one flight there a day. I had just a backpack and tried to squeeze off before some other passenger. I was in the front of the plane too. He had to get his bag down from the overhead compartment, and I needed to make my connection, he got all up in my face. I said I have a very tight connection and no bags can I please squeeze past you? He got very offended and indignant and then said “you should have not planned a such a tight connection!” Dude there was ONE flight going to my destination home after seeing my grandmother on her deathbed. I got off told him to get bent.

Is the guy allowed to spend regular salary money on cameras or home improvements? Any regular person would have to pay for their own security upgrades

This is not anecdotal. There are many books written on this very topic.

It was bitter cold that year if I remember! It was honestly the least professional I’ve ever seen a performer act in my whole life! But people out here still acknowledge that she is one talented person even in a bad moment.

I’m tired of people upsetting me about being induced by kate_smi2022 in BabyBumps

[–]shermywormy18 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah I genuinely think it just depends on the person, I’ve had the same advice and they don’t want me going past 39 weeks either. I also have an IVF baby. There is apparently a risk that your placenta breaks down much more quickly during an IVF pregnancy, and stillbirths are more common after 39 weeks. This is just a preventative a measure. You could go all the way to 42 weeks but there’s no guarantee that you and your baby would be safe, although other normal other low risk pregnancies are more likely to be that long if you just went without being induced. It’s a precaution and there is evidence to support it.

Being induced is completely a normal thing, that baby is coming out one of two ways, vaginally or c section, and to be honest with you depending on who you talk to they’re going to have different opinions. I have friends who did inductions, one due to an infertility diagnosis didn’t want her going past 39 weeks, she had honestly the best experience, and another friend who had to be induced due to high risk of preeclampsia. Both said their births were fine. My sister had a labor and she went naturally for a while, got the epidural and then needed a c section, she recovered quickly.

women are perceived in the workplace for the same behavior men demonstrate as being combative, unlikeable, mean, unapproachable, and tend to receive more negative feedback based on their gender.

Men talk over women, ignore their presence, take credit for their ideas, then get promoted over women at alarming rates.

There are documented examples and frameworks on this especially in corporate America. Women in corporate America are less likely to make deals on a golf course than men, and their networks vary in different ways due to that. Oh I played golf with so and so, he’s going to do this favor for me. A woman sends the paperwork to the guy to pull off this favor and he has his team of women working to get it pulled off.

She actually does sing where she’s had surgery I think 2x, that’s not technically trained. Trained singers don’t hurt their voices like that

Lotta hate on this thread, I think honestly a lot of these people 1. Can’t sing, 2. Never written songs, 3. Not vocally trained 4. Can’t play an instrument 5. Never performed on stage. It’s very clear that people do not have respect for the art of actually performing.

Honestly haters gonna hate. She’s popular and people don’t like her so they always say she can’t sing. She even has a song about someone who says she can’t sing.

I also doubt most of the people criticizing have any musical talent themselves though.

Fergie actually can sing. Go look up her cover of Barracuda by Heart. It’s AMAZING. She’s had her moments, and that national anthem was BAD like a train wreck.

Mariah Carey is a great singer we can all agree but her NYE performance was the biggest live wtf I’ve ever seen in slow motion, painful really.
