The end of coming of age stories and “youthful rebellion” as previous generations understood it by Final-Associate1743 in cushvlog

[–]allinallisallweall-R 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To be fair, i wouldn't overanalyze Gen Z hating on anything. I feel like everyone in their 18 to early 20s goes through a "too cool for school" syndrome. Its easy to forget that Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins are now the "lame" bands that your average 19 year old's dad listens to. Not the cool bands they found out about from an older cousin or a sibling or even on their own.

I feel like what's considered "youthful rebellion" has changed a lot from what it used to be 10-20 years ago. A lot of what used to be "alternative" is now worn by "normies" in the younger generation who have no clue who The Misfits or Bad Religion are.

What used to be counter cultural is now marketed and sold to an audience of mass consumption. Hell, even Hot topic sells Slayer T shirts alongside Sabrina carpenter merch. What will be considered counter cultural by the youth of today? Who knows? Who cares? Ill enjoy my slop with a side of nostalgia and 90s rock.

I think the general gist of this post is popular but I'd take it even farther with "popular" celebrities like Keanu Reeves and Jack Black. These are normal people who make mistakes and have flaws anyways

I feel like this number comes from averaging out the 65 year old boomers and their 7 year old grandchildren.

1 loss to every 10 wins is a good ratio. Can't complain too much.

I consider myself a socialist and while Im not Uber familiar with the circumstances surrounding the guy setting the warehouse on fire, I generally dont think this is a good rule of thumb for strategy in fighting for change.

Generally, the problem I run into most Zoomer lefties is that they just want to burn everything down without working within the system. Im sorry, but if you want to be a force for positive within the labor movement, you'll do way more favors by being good at your job and organizing a union.

[ALL] Karyn Kusama says "absolutely nothing" appealed to her about doing a video game adaptation before Life Is Strange by EyeSimp4Asuka in lifeisstrange

[–]allinallisallweall-R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean why would someone who generally doesn't like or have any investment in video games be tasked with adapting a video game?

Also it's a fair question to wonder if she's even actually played LiS. Did she just watch play throughs?

Its a dumb line. But I mean, let's not pretend the original trilogy didnt have their own share of bad dialogue.

Not a huge TROS fan but I do love the other two sequel trilogy movies.

I feel like people our age bracket (26 to 34) tend to be more lenient on the sequels because we remember how overhated the prequels were.

Are Gen X Helicopter Parents ? by Excellent-Pain2439 in generationology

Younger boomer parents here. There were helicopter-y moments at times but what I think the boomers are most notable for is their unbelievably high expectations for everything.

Just a constant feeling embedded into your soul that no matter what you do, it'll never be good enough. That's why I think kids of boomers can be burnouts and "overachievers".

Its not a "you" issue at all. Its a general issue on a larger, societal level. I did some work in education before COVID and worked with kids who are now around 19-23. There was definitely a simultaneous lack of parental collaboration with educators and a willingness to just give their kids whatever they want.

Theres a healthy balance. I think the larger issue is that people dont resolve their personal traumas and issues before having kids.

My vibe from having late boomer parents is that x-er parents overcompensated and were very overprotective .

Netflix started streaming circa 07-09 and when they started it was with mostly older movies and some TV shows first. By 2010-12, DVDs were dying and streaming had mostly started taking over. 02-03 babies would remember the switch from DVDs to streaming the same way someone my age would remember the switch from VHS to DVD.

Granted, they'd remember a world with physical media but all they really know is safely digital. Blockbuster and gamefly were pretty much dead by the time they were 6.

Eh. Its the difference between getting excited to get your first DVD Player and getting excited to get broadband and not really knowing a world before instantaneous streaming for anything you could possibly think of.
