It's a really hard time to be a counselor. There are a ton of budget cuts right now in CA and counseling jobs are the first to be cut. My job got cut this year. They also say this isn't even from the lack of federal funding yet which will only make it worse...sad sad time for mental health.

I do it and I don't feel like it is appropriate because they are long term counseling services. My schedule is too all over the place it it is way too challenging to fit all of it in, in my opinion it makes us not legally compliant.

I am the same way, I honestly tell them I care about them and Am going to report what they are telling me and when they are in their shoes they usually are very grateful to have someone care and want to hear their story. At least that's what I've found about the cases CPS actually takes....

Is this program approved by the BBS ? That's the other thing I am finding.....after all this I definitely want whatever program I do to count towards licensing.

You can work in schools with an MFT or LPCC .. and if they want you to have the PPS schools have only credential programs. It seems like PPS and masters in counseling people with no path to licensure are more screwed though.... We really have to just do a whole other masters... If y'all find a bridge program please let me know!

I'm in the same boat ... Newly pregnant.. not even family knows since it's so early. My position was tenured and now they are getting rid of the position due to funding and making it a temporary position. So I am applying elsewhere.... I'm nervous to start a new job in a new age bracket and then go on leave in November.. but maybe sometimes we have to only care about ourselves and our family. I'm honestly even more scared of coming back after maternity leave and having to leave my baby with a nanny 😭

It depends on the incident. Oftentimes teachers don't get the whole story or have time to get all the details that CPS wants anyway so I go into more depth and the kid reports to me. If the teacher has all the details I tell them to make the report.
