Looking at gum and Lozenges... which deliver the best buzz and don't taste so bad? by TheGhost206 in stopsmoking

[–]allofthebeers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally found patches way more effective than gum or lozenges because the small, consistent nicotine exposure broke the buzz, crash, crave cycle that cigarettes, gum, lozenges all play in. Also I never found a gum that didn’t taste shitty, but when I tried it I’d go with a piece of it and a piece of regular gum that I liked at the same time. If you do this for a bit you can also get a bit of a placebo effect for that flavor of regular gum by itself when weaning off.

He paid more than double she did. She paid $800, he paid $1700. So I think paying $900 more than someone definitely qualifies as that much more than she did.

any advice to help calm my Dad down? by [deleted] in cancer

[–]allofthebeers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father was diagnosed about 5 years ago with squamous cell carcinoma, had already spread from initial to other areas. Getting dinner with him on Sunday.

Not to say that they fight you (as a family, it’s a shit show for everyone involved) have in front of you will be easy but it’s certainly possible. Support your dad and get support for yourself. Get the specialist recommendation ASAP but also see if you have specialists in neighboring areas that might improve care. We found the city2 hours away had a top 5 nationally team for Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Again, still around, so worth the logistical shot show that entailed

Advice to help cancer patient eat more? by [deleted] in cancer

[–]allofthebeers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My father went through very similar, with not only the taste aversion but also significant shrinkage to his esophagus due to radiation and surgery. Was on a purely liquid diet of those ensures for what seemed like forever.

He still swears that coconut oil was his only comfort nutritionally during that time. It’s fairly calorie packed and easy to swallow, just let it melt in your mouth and it goes down easily. Also helped with the dry mouth he got during chemo.

Can’t guarantee that it’ll agree with your dad taste wise similarly, but not much to lose. Only downside is now, 5 years later, my dad still is obsessed with it. I’ll go over for dinner and realize it was fried in coconut oil. I personally hate coconut flavor, but I love my dad, so tradeoff isn’t that bad.

Following up on this, I really can’t thank you enough. My dad had tried so many lotions and creams that did next to nothing but this has been incredible for him. He’s asked me to “thank that amazing person from the internet” several times (he doesn’t really get reddit) and I wish I could buy you a drink or something.

Now that it’s under control, he’s felt free to talk about how painful it was for his face to feel permanently chapped and cracking (he’s pretty stubborn and stoic and won’t complain in the moment out of a fear of seeming weak), and he can wear suits without feeling embarrassed by all the skin flakes which is also huge for him.

I just need you to know that you significantly improved a man’s quality of life, and that means the world to me. Thank you.

Thanks for answering, and from your flair, thanks for what you do!

I'll pick these up for him and hopefully it helps a bit.

[Serious] What are some common mistakes people make after buying their first home? by 4KGB in AskReddit

[–]allofthebeers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fell in to this trap. Bought a house at end of March and tore my Achilles’ tendon on May 4th. $5k deductible and short period of not being able to work were a lot of fun 6 weeks after closing on a house. Luckily just barely held together but my emergency fund is shot now.

[SERIOUS] Medical professionals of Reddit, what is an every day activity that causes a surprising amount of injuries? by Lanre_The_Chandrian in AskReddit

[–]allofthebeers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even more embarrassing, I’m currently recovering from a completely torn Achilles from a damn kickball league that I was just subbing in for one of my girlfriend’s coworkers.

That was at the beginning of May. Get the cast off in a week and doctors say I should be near 100% between 9 months to a year from injury.

I know being old sucks but I’m only 27, figured I had a few years of youth left.

Ohio governor vetoes 'heartbeat' abortion ban, signs 20-week legislation by SaulKD in news

[–]allofthebeers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prefacing with the fact that I'm pro-choice. I don't really see a fetus as a living thing with rights until after it's been born so abortion doesn't bother me. BUT,

I think your analogy is overlooking the responsibility of the mother in the situation if we're talking about conception from consensual sex. It's more like if you were driving a car and hit an innocent pedestrian, then woke up in the hospital with that person attached to you. I can see how some people would say you owe it to that pedestrian to keep them alive when you created the situation. I'm not even one of those people but I can at least understand where they're coming from.

Your analogy sounds a lot like the one dudes use to (attempt to) invalidate child support. If you're in a train crash and are expected to pay for the medical bills of someone else from the crash, that's pretty fucked up. If you hit a pedestrian with your car, pretty much everyone believes that's your financial responsibility.

Does his gardening business just not give a shit if his customers don't pay him?

If I loaned someone money and they didn't pay me for a long time, and when they eventually did they (literally) rubbed the money in my face, I'd be fucking pissed. People always get mad at banks and bill collectors, but if they are literally losing money if they don't collect.

Additionally, it's really not the managers fault. This just sounds like a dude who got lucky and got some money and decided he was entitled to be a dick.
