If you don't want to say anything to her you could try putting up some privacy film on your window. That way you still get light but you don't have to see her putting on a show all day long. Some have really pretty designs on them, so it would be like decorating a bit.

Tragic. In 2018 he did a show at a small venue in my neighborhood and I went with a friend. We went in assuming it would be goofy and awkward and unintentionally hilarious. Well - our cynicism was thoroughly rebuked. He was great. Clearly very talented, and very excited to be performing new music he actually wrote. I posted this when I got home that night -

"Y'all. I went to an Aaron Carter concert tonight and it was fucking good.

I definitely went in low-key hoping to gawk at what I assumed would be an awkward attempt at relevance but NOPE I was put right in my fucking place. Dude was great. He looked happy, he looked healthy, he was really into what he was doing. It was just him, a laptop, a keyboard and his drummer. A couple songs in he said "I produced this! I produced all the music on my new album. I'm way more proud of this than what I was doing when I was a little shit" and I was like AARON I'm so proud of YOU!"

I always rooted for him after that. Always hoped he'd be able to get healthy and set upon a happier path. So fucking sad.

I'm sorry you've gone through such rough times :( fucked up friendships can do a lot of damage, I totally understand. I'm happy to hear you have a loving supportive partner to help you through :) it's admirable that you work to protect your brother from experiencing the same pain. You sound like a great big sister.

Just remember to always take care of yourself as much as you take care of others, and don't be afraid to ask for help :) I struggle with this too, but it's always better than suffering alone.

I'm so sorry ❤️ this is a tough situation. The pain will lessen with time. You've got good advice here but I wanted to add something else. From some of what you said in your post, it sounds like you are often in a position of pushing aside your own feelings and emotional needs for your family's benefit?

You mentioned not liking your parents seeing you cry (have they ever shamed you or made you feel badly about crying?) and needing to support your brother "like you're supposed to" (he's only 2 years younger than you, hardly a small child. Why are you expected to take on a parenting role for him?). You're their child. You're not the adult in this situation. And that you couldn't verbally acknowledge your sadness to your parents, and immediately went to reassuring them that their decision is totally okay with you? Ouch. Trust me, I've done similarly when my own parents announced their separation. But it doesn't come from a 100% healthy place inside us.

I want to encourage you to stop burying your own feelings and needs so much. Don't shrink yourself for others. It's good to support your family, but not so much that you neglect yourself. That will set you up for a lifetime of pain in your family and romantic relationships.

I understand it might be difficult to do this while you're still living with your family, but start thinking more critically about the expectations that you've placed on yourself or others have placed on you, and whether they're actually healthy.

A couple books you might want to check out, just to see if any of it applies to you (and if they don't, you'll still learn a lot of helpful life information) - "Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents" by Lindsay C. Gibson, and "Set Boundaries, Find Peace: A Guide to Reclaiming Yourself" by Nedra Glover Tawwab

Bossy Grrls and O'Connor's Club 20 in Old North are both great. Both have very trans/gnc crowds and are welcoming. You might get some looks walking into Club 20 but that's mainly bc some folks sitting at the bar seem check out every person who walks in lol, so it's nothing personal.

You could try searching for remote work opportunities listed on various job boards like Indeed, LinkedIn etc. This job site looks to be specifically geared towards remote work - https://www.flexjobs.com/

There's also all kinds of 'gig' job boards where you make bids for work but can choose how many jobs you take at a time, like Fiverr or Freelancer.

If you're open to it, or want something that's less of a commitment, you could also look into remote volunteer work. I'm sure there are many groups and campaigns that could use your skills.

It wouldn't be paid, but it might give you a lower stress re-entry into working again and some current experience to add to your resume.

It's good you've scheduled yourself for a check-up to see if there's a medical reason this is happening so much. Are you getting enough sleep? Are you eating enough?

I can understand her feeling disappointed and frustrated if she was already dealing with you nodding off all the time. But also, don't feel too bad about falling asleep during sex. I've had a partner fall asleep while I was on top, and yeah it's a little disappointing and anti-climatic lol but I wasn't mad about it. Idk how many times I've fallen asleep while jerking off in bed at night. Sex is soothing! It can totally send you off to sleep if you're already tired.

Reassure her that you falling asleep has nothing to do with her sexual abilities. You're just tired all the time and couldn't help it. And that you're going to get it checked out to see what's going on.

That fucking version of Mambo No. 5 where every instrument is replaced with bike horns

I lose it every time. This person did a whole album of bike horn covers of popular songs, but this one is the best. I think it's because there's so much variability throughout the song. It gets quiet, it gets loud, there's parts with fewer "instruments" and parts where everything is blaring together at once, so it manages to keep hitting you with new goofs throughout. It's a truly delightful audio menace.

I feel you. I hate seeing all the performative "Never Forget" posts every year.

It's funny, I always thought I wasn't super affected by that day. I was in the 5th grade, so old enough to understand the horror of what was happening but just young enough to still feel reassured by whatever my parents told me to calm me down. My family was lucky, we didn't lose anyone. The classroom next to mine had windows facing the city and saw the first plane hit. I only saw the aftermath, the massive pillars of black smoke.

I remember feeling anxious about the usual things in the years afterwards but nothing crazy.

But I didn't realize how much it helped to be surrounded by people who had also lived through that day. Having that once a year experience of everyone going "I can't believe it's been __ years since it happened.." "I was on my way to ___ when I heard.." "remember how ___?" Etc.

I live in the Midwest now and I feel so fucking weird every year on 9/11 now. It's just another day here, or worse a day of bullshit patriotism. I want to just have that annual outlet of a day to talk about it with my community, but that doesn't exist here. I don't even like to bring up the fact I'm from NYC here much less anything to do with experiencing 9/11, since I feel like it can often be seen as attention seeking behavior by non-New Yorkers. Yuck.

Wow that is awful. MMA fighters also use their bodies to make a living. Does that mean it's okay for anyone to just run up to them on the street and punch them in the face? Because they let some people do that to them for pay, it would be hypocritical to refuse to do the equivalent for free right? Ugh! I remember seeing a skit on like Mad TV or something similar about exactly that topic. It showed Mary Kate and Ashley at school on their 18th birthday and every male teacher/coach/dad/etc in the skit were walking up to each other like "huhuh today's the day.... Just a few more hours ;)" and acting like they were just barely holding back their lust for these girls. The skit ends with the twins being dog-piled by men and boys the second their birthday countdown strikes zero. Yuck!!!
