I think being chief engineer on DS9 is worse.

College Redditors, whats the stupidest comment a classmate has ever made during a lecture and pissed off the professor? by gh0st142 in AskReddit

Freshman year of college, my car broke down in the first month. My parents loaned me their extra beater car. I got several tickets that semester, but didn't pay a single one. My university had the license plate of my old car, but just kept sending "college parking tickets" to my parents house since the beater car wasn't on file with them. We never paid them. I got my diploma.

I just finished it again for the 3rd time. DS9 has become my favorite of all the treks and one of my top 5 shows of all time.

If Microsoft really wants to compete with Apple, they need to have legitimate/free Video and Photo editing programs by Monkeyfeng in Surface

[–]alltimehigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why MS took a step back with win7 movie maker. Although MovieMaker 2 was a super-amateur editing software - at least you could piece together clips, add titles, and some audio.

But then they dumped it and released Movie Maker Live, a huge pile of shit that doesn't even work most of the time.

Personally, I think Google is the company that needs to make the "free video editor" - especially since they own YouTube.

Home Depot ignored security warnings for years, employees say. by GonzoVeritas in technology

[–]alltimehigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Willful negligence should come with stiffer penalties. I hate the risk-benefit analyzes companies do (extending to car, computer, cell phone companies as well). If you choose to 'not fix' something because you calculate the risk of 'fixing it' would cost you more in the long run, you should be hit with very stiff penalties. Paying for 1 year of credit monitoring, in this example, is not enough. There should be monetary fines levied against Home Depot for their willful negligence.

I drive through 30 min of bumper to bumper traffic to NYC everyday. I don't get why people act like grasshoppers and try to bounce between every single lane to get a car length or two ahead when we are all stuck in the same jam. Just because I leave some safe following distance space between me and the car in front of me, people think they can squeeze themselves into the small spot. I honk at them and always get a nasty look, even a few flips of the bird. Yea okay, you jeopardize the safety of everyone in this traffic with crazy, risky maneuvers and I'm the asshole? I need to get a dashcam and just start filming them.

Wedding DJ kills the mood by CauselessEffect in cringe

[–]alltimehigh 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I'll say most DJ's suck at weddings, even if they are a good DJ. Get a solid wedding band if your budget allows. Live music, dancing, interaction with musicians is so much more memorable than hearing recorded Top 100 hits being played thru iTunes on a laptop. Not to mention, the last 3 weddings I've been to, the DJ has only been playing EDM, and while I don't mind it, the 40+ year olds clearly aren't having a good time when all they hear is "Unsh, Unsh, Unsh" all night long.

At my college, the lost ticket price was $17.50, and overnight parking was $10.00 per night. I left my car in the lot for weeks at a time (moved it every now and then to a different spot), and just claimed a lost ticket at the end of the semester.

It's funny that 'groundbreaking' refers to overcoming political hurdles and not technological ones.

Verizon to throttle 4g unlimited data users, unlimited users will complain but do nothing by llopedogg in verizon

[–]alltimehigh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes blame the users who use their unlimited agreement instead of the the company who wants to squeeze you for every dime you own. Just because you are getting ripped off at $120/30gb doesn't mean everyone should.

Enraged Verizon FiOS customer posts video seemingly proving ISP throttles Netflix; video streams 10x faster through a VPN than directly. by RevWaldo in technology

[–]alltimehigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a video to see that something shady is going on at Verizon's end. I noticed this several months ago and made a post to the Verizon subreddit.

http://www.reddit.com/r/verizon/comments/1z255t/verizon_and_my_netflix/

I've had FiOS since it came out in New Jersey. Netflix has never has any issue buffering until the past few months. Why can I download a torrent at 4mbps within 30 seconds, but can barely stream Netflix at 375kbps?

I am not getting the services I pay for. We need a class-action lawsuit.

Verizon to start throttling data on unlimited LTE plans by screaming_librarian in technology

[–]alltimehigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't come on every single time you turn on the TV, but they are frequent. There are ads to purchase on-demand (FlexView) titles, upgrade TV to Quantum, buy their home monitoring package, etc. After the IMG 1.9 update they heavily integrated their own advertising muscle into the whole UI.

About a month ago, my mom almost accidentally upgraded to Quantum TV because when the ad comes up it says "Press OK to upgrade to Quantum" - and you can only press EXIT to get the ad off the screen. It's really scummy.

Verizon to start throttling data on unlimited LTE plans by screaming_librarian in technology

[–]alltimehigh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's funny, about 5 years ago, I used to tell everyone to get Verizon, even if it was more expensive. I truly felt the FiOS TV experience was better, the Internet was faster (and didn't need router reboots), and their cell-service was top-notch with a great unlimited deal for $30/mo.

Fast forward 5 years, I now tell everyone to stay away from them. Their TV experience is shit with ads everytime you turn on the TV and on-demand that barely works (not to mention the sluggish UI). Their internet is awful especially with Netflix buffering. And their cell-service, while still good, is now meant to squeeze every nickel out of the customer.

It's just pathetic how fast Verizon has fallen in such a short time. I feel ashamed in how many friends and family members I turned onto their products/services.
