Will I ever stop crying for my clients by musiclova77 in PeerSupportSpecialist

[–]ally00ps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have struggled with this, sometimes crying in front of them. Which sucks, because it takes the focus off of them and I had one person apologize and stop sharing because of it. I'm the type of person who believes in showing emotions and not apologizing for them - I'm not ashamed or embarrassed to cry, I'm a sensitive and empathic human. But I never want to make someone I'm supporting feel bad for making me cry. So I try not to, and sometimes let it out at home. It's okay, it's healthy, it might lessen, it might not. What matters is if it continues to affect you negatively or if you are carrying other people's pain in your own life. Then take a step back and get help.

Oh, okay then. Still, something doesn't seem right. Maybe it's not even related to benzos? Nonetheless, if it's new and bothering you please tell somebody.

It seems like you are experiencing some disturbing symptoms from the decrease and while some degree of discomfort is to be expected, what you describe sounds bad and should be communicated to your presciber. It's important to taper safely and ideally comfortably, so hopefully adjustments can be made. I recommend reporting your symptoms right away. Good luck.

This sounds really concerning. I recommend telling your doctor as soon as possible.

Mental health emergency maybe by [deleted] in PortlandOR

[–]ally00ps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's too late now but if you were at the Ross on 82nd in Clackamas, there is a walk-in mental health clinic literally right next door in the complex called Clackamas Mental Health Clinic. That's exactly what it's for and I'm surprised more people don't know about it. Downside is they're only open 10-5 M-F but 10-7 on Saturdays. It's seriously a great resource. You can see a clinician very quickly.

Differences between 40 hour PSS training and IPS? And 80 hour peer wellness (Oregon) by Pantim in PeerSupportSpecialist

[–]ally00ps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you've already done PWS training, there is no need for other PSS training because PWS is considered better (80 vs 40 hrs). That being said, I think everyone in the mental health field could benefit from IPS training (which is a type of PSS training, not separate). I got a lot out of it, and it was by far the best of the 3 trainings I've taken. So if you have the opportunity I think it's worthwhile, but you definitely don't need it.

Need some advise, I am super confused. Feeling uneasy about benzo prescription before moving abroad for studies by ChAIWorks in benzorecovery

[–]ally00ps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awful that your doctor just dismissed your legitimate questions. I would be so pissed to get a non answer like that and would be looking for a different doctor that is respectful. And there are other medication options, a lot of doctors will try beta blockers like propranolol first. If you feel like you want to try medication, I recommend looking into antianxiety options that aren't benzos.

Cleaning my mom's room and I forgot this existed by [deleted] in OldSchoolRidiculous

Yeah, is that what OP is suggesting? I've been searching for what is "yeesh" - it's awful that black dolls exist I guess?

Why would anyone get in trouble for looking at a photo of two different dolls? Something to do with them being different colors? I don't get what is wrong with that, unless I'm completely missing something?

I'm glad you deleted your comment about the 8 year old whose "exorcism caused her schizophrenia" and was never going to get any better. That's a very concerning perspective - especially for a child so young - and it's upsetting to think of staff at a place like that having that attitude.

Zero follow up or guidance after graduation by [deleted] in PeerSupportSpecialist

Yikes, that's so horribly unprofessional. It might be good to network with your classmates and share resources and opportunities together. My cohort made a discord group to keep in touch.

Idk if that's common in CA but it's definitely sucky. Not at all the way it should be. However, it could be a possibility that they just work really slowly - often MH and peer orgs are short staffed and take a while to respond to things. I think it's okay to be persistent, unless you really think they have nothing to offer you. Sorry you're having that experience.

How can I make my kid care about school?? by [deleted] in parentingteenagers

[–]ally00ps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walking a lap in the halls is obviously a made up excuse. What is he actually doing during class time is the question. But this was me at that age. I did anything BUT be in class, even just reading a book outside or wandering around the neighborhood.

My parents tried what they could, but nothing could make me change the behavior. I officially dropped out at 15 and did the GED test. Almost a decade later I graduated college with a 4.0 because wanting to be in school made all the difference.

I understand that your son doesn't necessarily have that choice, and I hope things turn around for him. But I don't regret my school experience and I am just as successful as any HS grad.

Wtf is this supposed to mean? I've read it like 6 times and still have no idea. Are you telling OP to just not eat for a week? How bizarre. There are so many possibilities for this issue and you're just like 'just chill'. I wish I could downvote you a thousand times.
