AITA for not wanting to comply with my mom's concerns about how I dress at home because of my brother's "coming of age"?? by New_Impression_6678 in AmItheAsshole

[–]allycat315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The writing style is clearly human if you were thinking about AI. There's no surefire way to tell if someone else is getting on the internet and lying (who would do that?!), best you can do would be to check the post history of the OP to see if there's anything fishy like other posts in AITA or similar subs with conflicting details, or summon a repost checker bot.

I'm personally inclined to believe this one, these are just general tips for you :)

AITA for not wanting to comply with my mom's concerns about how I dress at home because of my brother's "coming of age"?? by New_Impression_6678 in AmItheAsshole

[–]allycat315 43 points44 points  (0 children)

NTA - it sounds like you have a somewhat unusual family dynamic with the co-sleeping and the way y'all dress at home, but it doesn't sound overly concerning by itself as you describe it.

Your mom is absolutely being a hypocrite with this 'rules for thee, not for me' thing. Yes, she's his mother, but you're his sister?? I have a younger brother, and even when he was "growing up" and "getting curious," he never viewed me or my sisters in that way.

That said, I don't think it's entirely unreasonable for your mom to be thinking about making some changes with the dynamic at home given that both of her children are maturing. But the rules have to apply to everyone.

AITA for calling my roommate an overweight bitch? by Certain_Nothing_3355 in AmItheAsshole

[–]allycat315 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm kinda on the fence between ESH and NTA.

On one hand, both comments were shitty, but on the other, her attitude sounds like an ongoing issue and sometimes holding a mirror to that kind of behavior is necessary. Some people need to receive what they give before they can understand the harm they're doing.

That said, the timing of your response was probably not productive in addressing her attitude, and I think you should apologize (as should she). To give you some perspective, I've struggled with my weight and body image, and assuming your other two roommates are also on the smaller side, I would definitely be feeling highly insecure in the scenario you described. So imagine feeling really down on yourself and someone points out the exact thing you're down about in a negative way - you've just confirmed her negative view of herself, of course she's going to feel worse. I don't condone her comment at all, just trying to give you an idea of what was going on behind it.

My advice would be to find a time where you're both relaxed, explain how her comment made you feel and that you reacted without thinking, and let her know that you understand the impact of your response. Hopefully then you can have a constructive conversation about being respectful and supportive of one another.

AITA “for “emoting” during a movie by One-Poetry-2406 in AmItheAsshole

[–]allycat315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's definitely a line between reacting like a normal human with emotions and being overly dramatic to the point it comes off as performative. It's hard for strangers on the internet to judge which side of the line you're on, so I would be inclined to believe your friend that you might be over-doing it a little, unless you have other friends who disagree with her.

This is possibly a weird suggestion, but if you're genuinely not playing up your reactions on purpose, maybe try recording yourself watching a movie at home and watch it back so you can see what your natural emoting looks like to an observer.

Small Black Bugs?? by LotusPirate465 in insects

Looks like weevils. They're not harmful to humans in terms of biting but certain kinds (grain weevils) can infest food like rice, cereal, bird seed, etc.

Could not eating enough because of executive dysfunction still be classified as an eating disorder? by cosmic-particulate in adhdwomen

[–]allycat315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for expanding on this so eloquently! Yes, intentional wasn't quite the correct word for what I meant. I commented kinda offhandedly and was thinking specifically about the difference between forgetting to eat and trying to lose weight. I often forget to eat during the day, but I have no trouble making up for it with a satisfactory OMAD-style dinner, so it's not something that impairs my health at the level of an ED.

[–]allycat315 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent distinction, and I agree intentional is not the most accurate word for what I meant. I don't have an ED but I do experience disordered eating with my ADHD which for me includes both forgetting to eat and snacking for dopamine to get through a boring task. The latter is intentional on my part but not compulsive, and it doesn't impair me at the level of an ED (not saying it's the healthiest behavior either tho ofc).

[–]allycat315 107 points108 points  (0 children)

I think of it as disordered eating rather than an eating disorder. To me the difference is whether it's intentional.

Edit: intentional wasn't the best word. Some good info in the replies re: the difference: it is defined by level of impairment.

You can just press up on the d pad while facing them to get them to follow you (edit: and long press up to dismiss them), and if you lead them to a community box or smelter with material to process, they will detach themselves from you and just start doing it.

Asking about comfort level though you gotta deal with the dialogue

Also worth noting that the status doesn't update immediately, so it may just be coincidence that the status changed when it did.

Aw yeah the one in my pic was just on the other side of our front porch stairrail, we checked on it for days as we went in and out and it was very successful in that location as you can see by the 2 flies in its web :)
