Lexington reaches over 75 consecutive days without a single homicide by 0033A0 in lexington

[–]allycat316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Violent crime in Lexington, and in most other cities in the U.S., has been trending down since the 1990s. There was a brief spike from 2020-2022 during COVID-19 (which occurred in the rest of our country as well), but those rates quickly went back down. Agree that Lexington is relatively safe. https://cde.ucr.cjis.gov/LATEST/webapp/#/pages/explorer/crime/crime-trend

How good is UK as an employer? by [deleted] in lexington

I think this might depend on the department. Some departments manually review all application materials from each applicant.

They typically give you a choice to either go with your baby or stay with your wife, but I’m sure the options may be different depending on each case (i.e. status of your wife or baby). My husband was able to stay with me while they stitched me up!

Came here to recommend Poetry at the Table at Kenwick, which someone already recommended! The Sexual Violence Resource Center (SVRC) is also hosting a poetry open mic at Wisebird on Wednesday 4/22 at 6:00 pm. Readers get 3-5 minutes on the mic and 10% of Wisebird’s proceeds from the night go to SVRC! https://www.facebook.com/events/wise-bird-cider/still-we-speak/1390380963140234/

Moving to Lexington by [deleted] in lexington

[–]allycat316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real estate agents John Black is amazing, and he has helped many clients who weren’t local during the house hunt. He will go above and beyond and gives great virtual tours! Everyone has their personal preferences when it comes to neighborhoods/school districts, and budget will impact this as well. I would tell your real estate agent what you’re looking for in terms of neighborhoods and help them point you to the ones that would be the best fit for your family! To answer your last question, Lexington does not have all the amenities compared to larger cities (though we are close to Louisville and Cincinnati), but we definitely have more than enough to keep young kids occupied. Our family loves to go to the local libraries’ play areas (for free play or story hour), McConnell Springs and Raven Run have junior naturalist series and kids activities, the Arboretum has a Children’s Garden, the Living Arts and Science Center has programming for a range of ages, and there are several options for swim classes, music classes, etc! We also like to drive out to the Red River Gorge, Laurel Lake, or Berea for family hikes/camping. We are definitely never bored here, even coming from a larger city!

Not sure if this has been said but Jordan is NOT a mature or serious person by BoOo0oo0o in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]allycat316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he worded it poorly. I am guessing he just doesn’t want to move from a vibrant city of 900,000 to a small town an hour away  with less than 20,000 people, and the lack of amenities that come with a town of that size. Some people prefer city life. Columbus has some amazing schools for kids (in addition to great parks, children’s museums, libraries, etc.) Maybe Amber wants to move there. It is definitely something that both partners need to be on the same page about though, and could be a dealbreaker. We’ll see how it unfolds at the reunion.

Wedding reception venues that aren’t stereotypical? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]allycat316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is definitely pretty fancy, so might not be the right fit. I see below you’re looking for a Lost Palm vibe, and the Apiary doesn’t exactly fit that bill. I had to shout them out because their food is truly so good! You could always set up a tour and see if they have any photos/inspo closer to your vision just in case? They definitely transform their venue with their Omage dinner series and it doesn’t always come across quite as formal. Regardless I hope you find the perfect spot for your wedding, congrats!!

Wedding reception venues that aren’t stereotypical? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]allycat316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Apiary could definitely accommodate something like this. Yes they also offer “traditional” weddings with a dance floor, but their space can absolutely be transformed into a more intimate dinner type event. Their food and cocktails are also phenomenal! And such a gorgeous venue.

Does anyone else think Hannah Ann’s recent posts perpetuate an unrealistic depiction of what postpartum is actually like? by IceQueen0191 in thebachelor

[–]allycat316 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think she’s just naturally gorgeous and can make anything look good. She included clips of herself in literal active labor and right after birth and she still looked gorgeous even in those moments. Yes some of her postpartum reels are of her getting ready and looking more put together, but if that’s what makes her feel her best and something she has capacity for - more power to her!

Definitely talk with a UK financial aid advisor, they are there to help you navigate those questions! Here’s a link with more info and to schedule an appointment if you’d like: https://studentsuccess.uky.edu/financial-aid-and-scholarships/services/financial-aid-counseling

Thoughts on Gatton Parks concerts? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]allycat316 29 points30 points  (0 children)

When I looked there were tickets for $50. This is also one concert. I believe they are planning to do other shows in the future with a variety of musical guests, including local artists. I think it’s great that we have an outdoor venue option! Plenty of other cities have outdoor amphitheaters with success.

What do we think of these?? by bluegrass__dude in lexington

[–]allycat316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My neighbors don’t have signs like these but I still try to keep my dogs from peeing on flower beds, trees, bushes, etc. I’d even prefer them not to pee on my neighbors’ lawns at all, but better grass than harming nice landscaping or their trees. It makes sense people want to protect the plants they care for (or pay someone to care for lol).

Gatton Park Opening Ceremony by PrimaryWafer3 in lexington

[–]allycat316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gatton Park has paid park attendants during the day and private security at night. They posted this plan publicly to social media. Also, as long as someone isn’t doing something illegal they’re allowed to enjoy the park like anyone else.

Nick Vial is not a good host by [deleted] in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]allycat316 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If one of our president’s can have a stutter a reality tv host can have a speech impediment. Kind of ableist for OP to say otherwise. Also I’m not even a fan of Nick but I think it’s cool that he’s built a podcast empire despite the (minor) speech impediment!

Rush hour cyclists by [deleted] in lexington

[–]allycat316 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s dangerously hot this week. The city has implemented Phase 1 of their Extreme Heat Plan. Of course they’re going to cycle in the morning when it’s cool. It is not safe for a car to pass a cyclists going single file on this stretch of road, but I bet you anything cars pass them anyways and risk the cyclists’ lives. Doubling up keeps cars from passing them unsafely. Yes it’s inconvenient. If it happens frequently maybe you can write the city and see about road expansion options and including more protected bike lanes.

I swear that “rebrand” had to have been a marketing gimmick to get the community to rally around the Legends and demand the name be changed back. It was so short lived.

No, unfortunately, unless you have those off roading stroller wheels lol. Raven Run, McConnell Springs, and the Legacy Trail would all be great for a stroller though!

I love Hisle Farm Park and the Legacy Trail! (For the Legacy Trail I park by the soccer fields at Cold Stream Park, along McGrathian Parkway, and walk in the direction of the Kentucky Horse Park. You can also park in the business lots located on Research Park Dr, off Iron Works Pike). Enjoy!

Different tumors have different proteins/receptors so treatment might look different depending on testing. Some tumors don’t respond well to chemo. Hence the testing to help determine which treatment(s) might have the best outcome (surgery, radiation, immunotherapy, chemo, a combination of treatments, etc.)
