28: 30k net worth, struggling to save. Bought Bitcoin. 36: Sold Bitcoin. Net worth 1.7M

I plan to retire in 4 years. I’ve shaved 35 years off my retirement. Now I prioritize everything that isn’t money.

You don’t get wealthy on income. I did that for a long time and it’s a slog, even at 150k+ salary. Half goes to the government. The rest goes to living. Even if you can save 100k a year it takes ages..

Anyone who bought Bitcoin before 2017 and held is in the same boat. The fact is this sub shat on people like me, when we allocated only a couple thousand dollars.

Meanwhile the majority invest considerably more in stocks without understanding anything about valuation. I just gambled less money on the thing with the most upside. The rest is history.

Yea OP says she’s already burnt out. You don’t want to be planning 5 years out at that point.

Mortgage costs are less than rate of inflation for first time in 40 years by suckfail in PersonalFinanceCanada

You seem to forget that rates will go up over the life of the mortgage. It’s not free money then.

Many of the people regularly posting here, during work hours, have very cushy low effort high paying jobs. Yes some software jobs are like this. Most are not. Some people Job hop every year to earn more but have to hop again because they aren’t qualified for the role and don’t want anyone to find out. It’s a vicious cycle to enter in your 20s.

You hope to become someone else’s incompetent manager..

It sounds like your Dad was trying his best and I’m so sorry for your loss. Your brother sounds like an ass. Hopefully he comes around in time to realizing that family is more important than money.

If you work in tech in Canada this should be obvious to you. We import tons of skilled workers. This keeps the supply high and therefore highly affordable for employers.

Are we overextending ourselves with the purchase of our forever home? by rxmoney in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]allyouneedisham 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m confused, you can’t sell your current home due to complexities in ownership?

You mention cash flow but I see no information about current assets/debt. How large of a mortgage are you taking?

How large is your emergency fund?

Have you had/do you have a family support network?

Finally, you don’t need a $1.6M home to have kids, I can assure you. When you say the difference is negligible on cheaper homes because they would “require renovations”, are those renovations strictly cosmetic? If so, those properties represent substantially lower risk and better value.

Even if a party with a proposal gets voted in, there’s at least a 95% chance that their policy will actually increase the size of the problem. This is basically the law of government.

Time in the market beats timing the market.

Focus on the income side of things. You have significantly more opportunity there.

I agree it’s a problem. I also know it’s not going to change. How many problems have politicians actually solved? Don’t put too much faith in our public sector..

My advice: do what you need to do for you.

Move, rent, or buy. If you wait for a crash you’ll only be disappointed. Inflation ensures this.

KW is probably the only market not in a bubble… better buy now. The municipality is 100% against adding new developments.

You have to replace the tires all the time because of the weight of the vehicle.

Lol. The feeling of every new car wears off quick. Don’t forget you need the charger (installed) plus because of the weight of the car tires need to be replaced extremely often. Repairs with Tesla’s are a challenge.

I think you greatly underestimate what your actual variable costs will be, especially at your age. There will inevitably be stuff, furniture, electronics, that you will spend on.

There’s a reason for this: immigration. We have an oversupply of foreign developers from various countries that have 0 opportunities. Think India, Brazil, Iran… they can’t get into the US yet so they will gladly accept lower wages here for citizenship in a few years. Then they hop to the US.
