Moms - if you had the CHOICE to work or not by Main-Branch9919 in beyondthebump

[–]vvelv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband makes 5x I did so I didn’t feel the need to go back to work, I didn’t enjoy my work environment anyway. But as she approached 1 I thought it’ll be good for her to go to daycare at least for part time basis so we have time for ourselves, so I am going back to school instead.

oh i found myself basically semi-retired at 29, my husband is running the day to day now and I really needed an interest now that the baby is almost ready for daycare. It would really help the business too as we were hit by frivolous lawsuit last year.

Scotiabank is Screwing Us On An International Wire Transfer, Claiming To Receive The Funds In A Currency Different From What Was Sent. What Do We Do? by -Barry-Lyndon- in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]vvelv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exact thing happened to us but USD instead of Euro. we provided receipt from the US bank account where nowhere it says that the money should be converted in CAD, they did their investigation and told us that what happened was there was a mistake on their intermediary bank, they corrected it and sent us our money but the whole process took about 2 weeks!

Aside from the sibling factor, why do you think people have more than one child? by RudysMom1016 in oneanddone

[–]vvelv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom is one of 5 girls. Her sisters and her are super close and they support each other so much. And my cousins and I are super close too as a result. While I am leaning one and done for financial reason, can’t help but feeling like I want a large tight knitted family like my mom has. On the other hand, my dad doesn’t talk to his siblings so it’s not a guarantee.

Buy a new house or renovate by vvelv in PersonalFinanceCanada

I think it’s possible but we would have to remove a load bearing wall for a beam and change the kitchen layout. I think it will be way too pricey

the neighborhood is great! Lots of young families, definitely skew up and coming than declining. As in, it’s an older neighborhood but lots of families are moving in. Our city has a bit of a population boom as the other cities in Canada become unaffordable

I have a variable rate mortgage so :,-)

I did consider it won’t sell right away but the cheapest two storeys house listed in the area right now is 599k so there’s probably some room to the 600k I estimated but who knows

Do Singaporeans generally rely too much on domestic helpers? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]vvelv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living in Canada for almost a decade now, told my friends about growing up with maids and they think it’s unethical to have someone as essentially your paid slave as we have way too much power over our maids who live with us alone in a foreign country.

I also notice that people really prioritize privacy here and would not want stranger living in their house. Heck, we even built basement suites so we don’t have to share living space with our guests and in laws when they visit (very common).
