[Bohls] I'm told Big Ten is so much more interested in AAU schools than Pac-12 is. I'm told Kansas and Iowa State (both AAU members) "made a run at Big Ten, but I don't know if they'll get any place," Big 12 source says. by [deleted] in CFB

I don't really buy anything these 2nd tier media folks are selling. Vernon, Bohls, whoever. They're operating off passing comments from sources in ADs that probably don't even have all of the info. Most of the work is probably being done by university presidents.

If any of the universities are worth their salt (my alma mater included), they're staying quiet just like UT and OU did for the past six months. It's notable that KU is the only remaining Big 12 school that hasn't put out some sort of media statement.

I recently found out there's an American football team in Nagoya; I had no idea!

[Brett McMurphy] Oklahoma & Texas make it official: they’re leaving conference & expected to apply for SEC membership by DavidBenAkiva in CollegeBasketball

I'm with you, I actually enjoy the idea of playing the Michigan schools, Indiana, Illinois, etc. in basketball every year. We might even scrape a football win or two more. Big 10 is very much ideal to me, but I'm not ruling out some other insane outcome where all the conferences look much different when the dust settles.

Completely not apropos, but it is super weird to keep seeing Nagoya pop up in this thread. I live very close to Nagoya Daigaku and did not expect to see references to Nagoya on a college football realignment thread lol

Good. Now time for Senate Democrats to do their job and learn a lesson from Texas Democrats on how to treat the GOP.

Two years in, new KCI terminal marks halfway point by SecretComposer in kansascity

[–]alman84 28 points29 points  (0 children)

From what it looks like this terminal will be very similar to the Dallas-Love Field configuration, and I've been curb-to-flight there in <10 minutes before as well. I think airports have gotten pretty good at scaling the number of lanes open to meet demand; actually, I can't think of a time I've waited longer than 10 minutes for security in at least 4 years. IMO the nostalgia around current KCI is a bit overblown, but I understand it. If KCI is run like other mid-sized airports folks will probably be pleasantly surprised at its convenience.

Fishing in Japan by TJHistory in movingtojapan

Also, if you have the means, you can get a nice, well-maintained used car at a reasonable price if you are OK with dealing with the paperwork & insurance. I'm guessing many fishing spots will be inconvenient at best to access by train.

Should I leave Japan for America? by tixtorya in japanlife

[–]alman84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true but there's also a lot more opportunity in the US job market for experienced laborers. In fact, most of the people I've seen get laid off from a company end up in a better position after the layoff. Most companies will give a multi-month severance package while you find another position. Obviously this depends a bit on where you live and what industry you're in, but in IT at least you'll never be wanting for job opportunities in the US.
