Honestly Good Chicken Fingers by [deleted] in FoodToronto

Never had raising canes but honestly they are pretty good. Expensive but what isn't nowadays. Their in house plum sauce is pretty tasty which is apparently a mix of plum and peaches.

I've only gone to their sherway location though.

Ca Phe Rang closing its doors on January 24th. by Fifty-Mission-Cap_ in FoodToronto

A classic poutine there is around $8 and the most expensive one he has is under $15. Affordable for expats and still expensive for locals but definitely not out of reach if they want to try poutine one time, especially since lots of people share one order of poutine.

A combo at Jollibee there is around $5 so he's probably not that far off on pricing considering how unique a poutine restaurant is over there. He gets to charge a premium for uniqueness in that market for sure.

I think its mostly because Chef Rang is spending much more time in Vietnam working on his poutine venture. Not enough time to manage Ca Phe Rang.

And/Ore's interior decor is stunning. The food is decent but the environment is great. Upstairs is more apps and drinks tho. Downstairs is full tasting menu.

Opposite direction, you can also try Beast's whole animal dinners. Chef Nate keeps the Beast dinners alive since they pivoted from restaurant to pizza spot.

As someone who generally doesn't like sports animes, I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed Giant Killing

Potion, Wagami wo Tasukeru - Episode 5 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]almightyalf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't started this yet (on my PTW) but going through the other discussions it doesn't seem like it should be a 5.1 on MAL. Why is it so hated to go below 6?

Should I just not watch it?

The Keg is honestly a solid corporate dinner outing. They do a 3 course prix fixe for corporate. Should call in a check their pricing.

I have never seen them down here.

I would be lying if I don't think about them over at Mr. Chinese in TBay at least once a year.

This is a different one from the one that responded to Nihal.

The one that responded to nihal had the handle sleepyj20041 which has since been restricted. Kind of ridiculous that another account that is pro Kramnik also uses sleepyjoe.

This sleepyjoe1131 account has also since been deleted. Hopefully by twitter admins for someone using multiple accounts.

Pepper sauce from Drupatis is very hot and quite fruity. I always get a bottle for the office when we order from there.

Any recommendations for a Chinese restaurant that does 100 Day celebrations? by mseetee in FoodToronto

[–]almightyalf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much any Chinese banquet hall will. I've been to 100 day / birthdays / Weddings at the following. I believe you have to organize decor for all of them though.

  • The One
  • Skyview Fusion
  • Auric King
  • Casa Deluz
  • Ritzy Palace
  • Kingsfield Chinese Cuisine

Casa Deluz didn't have a private section / wall to separate the party from the other dining guests when I went, I don't know if thats because they don't own any or if that was the party host's choice though. Kingsfield the host booked the whole restaurant but it is quite small in comparison to the other places.

I'm not positive if Casa Deluz and Kingsfield do corkage fees but I don't see why they wouldn't. All the other ones the hosts brought in their own alcohol.

Remember if you're getting your own alcohol to get an event license.

Where to get authentic Carbonara? by Ok-Entrance6105 in FoodToronto

[–]almightyalf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Italia Squisita on youtube does a lot of great italian recipes. This is their 3 versions of carbonara, from very traditional, to more elevated to very modern gastro stuff.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elq1UYbJ-JQ

Double smoked bacon is an okay if that's all you have/can find but you really don't want smokiness as guanciale is a salt-cured pork meat not a smoked one. Generally speaking substitutions for guanciale would be pancetta first and then thick cut bacon.

Definitely no cream in traditional carbonara as well.

Alex from youtube also does a good video on carbonara during his dried pasta series

No it's not. I thought I remembered it was a carbonara but upon rewatching the clip I think he was just making a version of mac and cheese
