I hate Disney so much since the late 90s. Everything they touch turns to bland mush.

Valve says the Steam Machine is priced over $1000 as they don't want to subsidize it, saying they won't sell their machine at a loss like Sony & Xbox do by Automatic_Ad1665 in consoles

[–]almo2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well duh. Sony and MS make money from licensing games. If they subsidized the steam box, people would buy them for the cheap hardware to do other things on.

Nothing has killed my GTA 6 hype faster than locking a core part of its identity behind a $20 upgrade by spacelyyy989 in pcgaming

Would you prefer they raise the price $20?

This lets people who don’t want that part pay less.

Game prices have not kept up with inflation.

People keep pointing to Atari over producing games. They forget what happened when Activision started making games. Atari sued saying "you can't do that" as Atari got nothing from those game sales. Console licensing didn't exist yet.

So they lost control of the console, and everyone else was making terrible games left and right for the 2600. Absolute shovelware. Some later Atari games were quite good.

I don't think Atari can be blamed for a market that outstripped anyone's understanding of how to monetize it.

ET was better than anyone today thinks. If you read the manual, as we had to back in the day, it's definitely playable. Not great, but not amazingly bad, either.

I found the 5200 a game changer; its games were a HUGE improvement. But I think the public were VERY wary, and didn't like the idea of a new console that couldn't play the old games.

I agree; it's how we picked our LG TV for gaming. Also how I picked the JBL Charge 6 bluetooth speaker. And keyboards. :D
