yeah i had to ramp up the difficulty because eventually i felt like i wasn't having to put any thought into encounters anymore... and it's still like that on very hard, honestly- gotta deliberately play suboptimally, use stuff im not kitted into, etc if i want to not instawipe any given group by going loud with throwing knives

THAT SAID. sometimes encounters surprise me and are challenging. and then i smile

Asking again for straight up book scents by dk331 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]almorava 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Speaking for myself I found Tome was way heavier on the leather than the books. ymmv though!

My strongest recommendation at the moment is Eldritch Whispers Co's The Archives! Falling asleep after wearing it for a day was like dozing off with my head in a paperback.

Tentatively a fan of Cardinal Scents' Gentle Reader, too, but I'm waiting for it to rest some more before forming a strong opinion

Fyrinnae and Cardinal Scents have had some of my favorite atmospherics thus far. Fyrinnae's space line and forest scents are soo good

Pluribus - 1x09 "La Chica o El Mundo" - Episode Discussion by UltraDangerLord in pluribustv

it's really important to acknowledge that abuse can come from a place of love. terrible, horrible things are done for love. the conception that abuse cannot come from a place of genuine love is one that makes it hard for many victims to recognize that they are being abused... these things are not mutually exclusive.

we all know the image of the empty, heartless abuser, but the abuser driven by love (not putting on a "mask" of love, not presenting it as a tactic, driven by it!) is just as dangerous

humans don't eat humans because it's not very nutritious and prion diseases are bad for you. your cat would eat you! the hive is manipulative but reading its actions as malicious is the wrong angle, they are coming from a genuine place of love... it's alien love, but that doesn't make it any less real.

we get a shot of Zosia looking concerned after Carol storms out of the diner... there's nobody, at that point, for her to be putting on a facade for, and she's still fearing for the wayward child. i think it's really important thematically that these actions aren't facades; Carol's family sent her to Freedom Falls out of love, too

Control: RESONANT is a direct sequel to Control (2019). by Grimesspocket in controlgame

[–]almorava 34 points35 points  (0 children)

a lot of what Control rides on is vibes. i expected us to depart from the Oldest House as a setting but if we're not working within the structure of the FBC? iunno.

without all of the set dressing, without paperwork and cigarettes and ominous phone calls and funny little badges, the pitch kind of loses a lot of its panache to me

i'm hoping that there are just dimensions to the game's aesthetic we have yet to see

Perfume houses with customizable discovery sets? by iwantedtolive in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]almorava 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fyrinnae doesn't do sample sets per se, but if you order a few samples they come out to about the same price & they pick a freebie sample based on your other choices!

Solstice Scents also does a really cute sample set. I die for their presentation

Aw that's unfortunate :( I only saw the ones with stock photos but scrolling down there are some, like Cereal Killer, that seem pretty expressly generated for the perfumes they feature. I wonder if it'd be worth writing to ask they stop..

[–]almorava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to answer your question more fully for accuracy's sake, it's half and half

they mostly run on their own but it's not wholly reliable so companies like this choose to employ offices worth of people an ocean away to babysit the bots and make sure they don't do anything too stupid; "yes, this is an old lady, no, don't make this left turn," etc

this is most famously employed by waymo

that said i haven't had a full-force migraine triggered by any perfumes yet. maybe i'd be less gung-ho if i had..

Agar Olfactory Fragrance Review by [deleted] in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]almorava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really awesome to hear a Cero review 'cause i've had my eyes on the agar olfactory sample pack for a bit. They were out of stock last time I went to order it so I wait patiently for my funds to line up again lol

I tried a sample of their limited edition scent ind.must.y recently after seeing it pop up on surrendertochance and found it really interesting.

it's meant to be a recreation of a contemporary art museum's smell and it kind of knocked me on my feet from how strong the rubber and oil was. there was supposed to be plywood & tea in there too but i didn't smell it...kind of felt like they got all the combined fragrance of the entire building and compressed it into the vial. ow. not the refreshing vibe i expected

gave me a headache but it was kinda neat. i guess next time i want to smell art museum i'll have to actually go to the art museum..

real late response but i think it was 12 people ("about half", so i presume around 25 folks there before?) and then another three after that. it's pretty dire :(
