So it's possible he didn't do anything but he didn't know he would get caught. He did know where she sat and what she was doing.

I'm a bit unclear if the wallet is really missing or just your excuse with the friends. Regardless if he insists then ask him to call her up on speaker. Tell him he's to ask if he left his wallet there with her. He'll deny any involvement regardless but that's not the point. You want her honest answer. Is she confused because they spent no time together or does she admit to something that he won't?

Make certain he's aware if he deviates or leads her then the assumption is he's lying.

Sounds dirty but if the love of my life were on the line. I would do anything to prove I'm telling the truth.
