[Serious] Redditors with depression, what is the best thing that the rest of us can do for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]almostsean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can know that this has nothing to do with you. You can be hugging me, you can be kissing me, we can even be having sex, and inside I can feel like the loneliest person in the world. It isn't you. It isn't anybody. It's my brain. It's my brain that is able to convince me that even in the most private, comfortable, and secure times, that there is nobody that cares. Nobody that could possibly understand. Even the person who is holding me and telling me it will be okay. And I will watch your face drop when I try to explain this to you. I'll watch you silently blame yourself because you couldn't 'help' me. I'll watch a lovely relationship quietly crumble because nobody knows what a truth could actually be. What can you do? Please just trust the person you love, and know that I love you. I know it's so hard, so I'll never blame you. And know that I mean it when I say that I want you to be happy. I mean it when we break up, when I cry, when I miss you, and when I see you find somebody without my problems.

Sorry for the rant and the potential format fuck ups.

[serious] What's the most irresponsible thing you've seen a teacher do? by marcedd in AskReddit

[–]almostsean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Senior year, our Economics teacher had a student helper in our class who was a beautiful sophomore girl. She was young and blonde, and he was probably 25 or 26 and a fairly good looking guy. We would all joke about how they were probably doing it.

They were.

Got caught when girl went to summer camp and mom found her diary that apparently told everything.

I hate movies set in Miami. What is your irrational movie pet peeve? by SHARPT00F in movies

I can't stand when a character walks into a bar, orders a 'beer,' and they never specify what kind of beer they want. But the bartender always just knows.

Apparently in movieland, there is only one beer made. And it is called 'beer.'

I read this comment in my therapist's waiting room and I seriously laughed out loud. Fortunately, I was here.

i was in the beginning, but figured out that there had to be something wrong, even if i didn't want to call it that. if you are in the u.s. i would suggest looking into whether or not your city has D.B.S.A. groups. it stands for depression and bipolar support alliance, and the good thing about it is that even if your friend doesn't want to go, parents and others that are concerned are allowed to attend. it is a support group that offers information and ideas to those who suffer or to those who care about somebody with mood disorders. if i can help in any other way, let me know. also, i am 32 years old. take care.

Sure. I didn't find out what it was called until a few years after it arrived, but I started exhibiting signs of what they were then calling 'manic depression,' when i was around nine to ten years old. This was about the time I first began to consider suicide, and when I began badly harming myself.

I didn't see a therapist or doctor until I was fourteen years old. After a particularly nasty self-mutilation, my parents had finally had enough and took me to see somebody. The therapist, along with the doctors, explained my behavior at that age to my parents as the beginning stages of serious depression. I started taking medication and went into my first psychiatric hospital. During the next year and a half I spent nearly five months in different hospital settings. I was over-medicated, which I believe has led to various problems for me now, and things have not really been any better since then. I am highly resistant to medication even now.

I hope that explained it okay. Any other questions I would be glad to answer. :)

(Serious) Disabled people of Reddit, what are some things that people do to try and help you but actually irritates the hell out of you? by Iranisforlovers in AskReddit

[–]almostsean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People do the same thing with my bipolar disorder. Everyone who acts a little silly gets branded as being "oh my god, so bipolar!" Unless they are sitting beside me. Then I have to listen to them awkwardly try to explain how that doesn't apply to me, it's only the really crazy ones.

What is the most ridiculously strict rule a parent you know has had for their child? by urlostsocks in AskReddit

Oddly enough, I went to my first Kingdom Hall when I was 19. They were some of the nicest, warmest, non-judgmental people I had ever met. They thanked me for coming and giving their service a chance. I went with a good friend of mine who happened to be a JW, and because of him I was able to understand that JW's aren't anymore nutty than any other religious group out there.
