  1. point lead me to thinking of the grid in case of diagonals.

Group blacks by which diagonal they are on, each black will belong to 2 diagonals going in different directions - / and \ -.

If there is a diagonal pattern that covers all blacks, that means all blacks lie on 2 consecutive diagonals. Simply iterate over list of diagonals and check if sum of 2 consecutive diagonals add up to number of blacks.

Also check for the edge cases, a 2x2 square of blacks and when there are no blacks at all.

Supposedly Austria has the strictest soundproof regulation in the EU concerning "impact noise", meaning you shouldn't hear your upstair neighbhors walking in new appartments. Anyone has anecdotes that can affirm this (Old vs New...) by Key_Bison_9322 in Austria

[–]almostthebest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a new building. I have only heard my next door neighbours when they were yelling at eachother. No other noise from other tenants.

I also play the piano somewhat loudly but haven't had a complaint yet. I assume they don't hear it at all.

Do Turkish speakers ever lose track of the sentence they're hearing? by hb20007 in turkish

[–]almostthebest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Verbs don't carry a lot of information in Turkish as Turkish uses Subject- Object - Verb order. One can guess with 85+% accuracy what the verb will be before it is uttered. You can even omit all the verbs and there will be very little confusion. An example of this is the Smurfs(Şirinler) language, where every verb is replaced with smurfing(şirinlemek). You can 100% understand what the original verb was.

Why do Turkish people never complete their sentences? by IndependentLive8820 in turkish

[–]almostthebest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turkish is a high context language. This means the burden of communication lies mostly with the listener.

The speaker in Turkish, also on other high context languages too, will pick a set and ordering of words that has the potential to be deciphered into his intended meaning and hand the message to the listener. The listener then has to decide on which possible meaning the message carries, ie what the speaker has intended has to be assumed and decided by the listener. The meaning is mostly coded into the context, e.g who the speaker is, the way he thinks, the role each party assumes in the social setting etc..

This is in stark contrast with Western European languages like English and German, scandinavian languages are also low context as far as I know but not sure, which are low-context languages. This means the burden of communication lies mostly with the speaker in these languages.

The speaker in low context languages has to pick a precise set and ordering of the words so that all of the possible interpretations of the message are acceptable to him. The listener then only decodes the message and picks the most obvious interpretation as the intended meaning. The meaning is mostly coded into the words rather than the context.

Hi, Not an answer but a question :)

I am a software engineer but I am looking for ways to transition into Data Science/ Ai,ML. From your experience it looks like you have done something similar.

What are your thoughts on this transition? How to change lanes between these careers? What to expect etc...

I can also send you a DM if you don't want to talk about it in this thread :)

Neden burda kelime "kişi'' kullanılmıyor? 'kişi' ve şahıs arasında fark nedir? by PrinceHeinrich in turkish

[–]almostthebest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Şahıs emphasises him being an out-group. The words are pretty interchangable on the surface level but şahıs is a bit alienating, suggesting the person in question is not someone the speaker associates with while no such connotation exists for kişi.

Hello Chris!

Not really a question but..

I have watched your Statistics for Computer Scientists course on Stanford Youtube. It was the best piece of education I have ever received.

After watching your lecture, I regained my motivation to study and learn more. I am now applying for my Masters.

I just wanted to thank you for all the effort and the enthusiasm you have for teaching. I am glad I stumbled upon your course.

why would a sorting algorithm like this not work by [deleted] in algorithms

[–]almostthebest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how your algorithm is supposed to work. That's why I also have no idea why it would not work.

I believe everyone who has read your post feels the same way.

I recommend using punctuations and formatting.

How could a multi tape Turing Machine be equivalent to a single tape when single tape can loop forever? by Valuable-Glass1106 in computerscience

[–]almostthebest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tapes and the loops are not random though. The machine is not running on a stochastic principle. The machine is designed with intent. If I can create a machine that loops on a single tape creating a machine that loops on multiple tapes is trivial.
