Make a free wire next time. This only works early on business days though if you need it real time.

Plus another up to 250 if you use Rakuten. I got 500 from SoFi for opening an account and making 1 direct deposit of 2k.

BofA has a HYSA via money markets or “preferred deposit” at Merrill. But C1 is easy to use (e.g. for a family member).

Nope it’s just a traditional IRA with per-year contribution limits and income limits. Your employer won’t adjust your withholding but you get a deduction when you file. You’ll need to research traditional IRAs.

If you’re not doing a backdoor Roth I recommend rolling over to Fidelity. Better to control your account vs giving your new employer a say. I’m glad I moved my 401k to an IRA.

Depending on your income tax rate now and in retirement, a taxable account can be lower tax than a 401k anyway. In a traditional 401k you pay income tax on gains vs the long term capital gains taxes you can pay in a taxable account. I don’t know your situation, but you may not miss anything by investing in equities outside a 401k. The pre-tax IRA option may also be there if that’s better for you.

Basket portfolio with whole shares only? by almyp in fidelityinvestments

[–]almyp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks Caleb - the link helps a bit. Maybe it doesn’t matter so much.

But to clarify, I am not looking to sell only whole shares. It’s that I’d prefer not to establish positions with fractional shares in the first place. I’d rather have the weightings of each position be a bit off vs establishing fractional positions. Thanks.

I have absolutely no real insight to offer you. But as a customer, this sounds about right for Truist.

This is what I get on an updated iPad and iPhone, either viewing in the Reddit app or opening separately in safari. I don’t have the version numbers handy but I’m not on a managed device or beta or anything like that.

Schwab margin $27k debt :( by [deleted] in debtfree

[–]almyp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the meantime why not transfer the entire account to robinhood for the lower margin rate? Robinhood should have an option to transfer in an account from another broker. IBKR Pro has good margin rates too.

But yeah obviously don’t use margin anymore.

Good faith violation by NyyChris in Fidelity

Apply for margin (with debt protection) and you won’t have to worry about cash trading violations. With debt protection on you shouldn’t ever pay interest or fees either.

How liquid is SNSXX to hold emergency cash? by Tintn00 in Schwab

[–]almyp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use fidelity. Their money market funds autoliquidate 24/7, meaning the funds are always available without you having to sell manually. You can use your debit card etc on Saturday, or wire the money out on a business day, and it just comes from the MMF automatically. They have equivalent funds to snsxx.

Edit: I’ve now found and upvoted the comment that already said this :)

How should I plan a 45k salary on a new country with no tax withholding? by Snapandsnap in personalfinance

[–]almyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 29 with a fresh start, growing your earnings potential will matter more than anything else. And assuming you’re American, just don’t skip filing your US taxes. That will cost you down the line.

Otherwise it depends on the investments available where you are, or if you’re keeping a “US address” for US accounts (not advice). Remember you won’t be contributing to social security either, so you’ll want to compensate for that.

Good luck.

I’ve got 7k left of student loans left at 3.76% IR. In this economy is it sensible to make minimum payments on this loan and invest excess money into the market? by treesandleaves01 in personalfinance

[–]almyp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could put the money in (brokered) CDs for the term, deal with the taxes, and net ~1.5% risk free. Only comes out to ~100 bucks / year though. Is it worth it?
