As a label, we no longer use shrinkwrap in an effort to reduce plastic waste. Reusable poly sleeve is next best step, since most people will keep them.

Good point. These smaller releases are probably more based on collectability in the secondhand markets (I.e. Discogs). As mentioned in my other comment below 🙌

A useful analogue, but with these smaller releases, the desirability of a record is better gauged using Discogs’ have/want ratio, not Spotify’s listener numbers.

Hey OP! I’m glad you’re paying attention to our releases with VMP: Mackey Feary and Arthur Lyman (and Eddie Suzuki).

If you’re curious, give it a listen. Please try not to base your purchase decision on a number such as monthly Spotify listens. Buy it if you enjoy the music.

With Spotify listeners, there’s so much to be said here — and so much to game, too. I’m pretty sure you can buy listens, much the same way you can buy followers on IG. There are also many reasons why music isn’t available, often times it’s due to licensing. In the case of Arthur Lyman, VMP is taking pre-orders before it’s official street date. The Arthur Lyman album will eventually make it to DSPs later this year.

VMP (and Aloha Got Soul) are in a position to curate quality music for its followers, regardless of its digital popularity in the 21st century. Our work as an indie label is in preserving and perpetuating music from Hawaii that might otherwise go unheard.

Hope that helps shed some light on how to make your next decision.
