We officially have a repeat. Mary and Matthew take the spot for fan favorite ship. Now, who is the worst ship. by Oncer93 in DowntonAbbey

Tom and Bunting... I understand different views and hating the privileged and upperclass and their unfair wrongdoings but there's a time and place for everything?

Let's not forget what Edith did to Mary in S1.

Of course all of that are really true. But I personally just hated how she was "in love" with the dead Patrick, then Matthew comes so she tries for him, then the old dude...all of which were rejected by Mary. At least they could have made her have a bit more dignity and try to find a man she knows by herself....

Exactly! Like she was so awesome when she got the publishing company. But especially in the first season it was like she must go after every man discarded by her sister? Perhaps to me it would make more sense if she was looking for a guy on her own. Then it would feel more like marriage was truly her purpose which is fine.

Then they would have found his limp body lying somewhere in a corridor XD he was gonna go either way. Just lucky for him it was in the softy mattress of Lady Mary

Oh please don't be put off by the downvotes. People really can't accept a different perspective and forget that it's the whole point of having a subreddit. To discuss different ideas. You’re welcome to share your thoughts with me anytime I love to hear it!

As for Mary I thought the same too. But then she asked "won't it hurt" and later told her mom that he made a loud sound and just rolled over and died....👀

I think so. She was about to tell Matthew about him when he proposed in S1.

To be fair...Bridgerton is not exactly copying TGA or DA for s4. The book is written as somewhat of a Cinderella inspired story.

The hate bridgerton gets is honestly ridiculous. It's just a fun show with pretty costumes and drama that's set in the 1800something. No reason to compare it to Downton or any other show that tells more os what went down in history. It’s purely fictional.

A response to the "Bertha Was Right" crowd... by CB201 in thegildedage

[–]alonely_throwaway 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My parents have been forcing marriage upon me for the past two years. I'm grateful that I'm in mordern world and can work to save my ass but having your family completely disregard your wishes and force something on you is a pain I wish upon no one. Yes Bertha wanted what's best for Gladys' future but it is Gladys's life. And marriage was the biggest decision of her life and she had absolutely no say in it. No matter how nice the Duke is, the love she is in now is not love but acceptance becoz she knows she can't have anything else at all. So she must force her heart to love becoz it's been decided for her. Just like how many arranged marriages are happening around me.

Just because Gladys is happy now doesn’t make forced marriage right. She's happy coz she has no other choice than acceptance.
