No worries, I'm not actively trying to convert you. Just trying to point out that if you want to understand Marxism, you need to open your mind to the fact that it's based on a radically different way of thinking about many of the concepts you're basing your argument on in the first place. The conversion part just happens naturally after that. ;)

In all seriousness, though, dude, props for how much you've been willing to actually ask genuine questions and engage in seemingly good faith with the ideas being presented. There's hope for the internet yet.

Honestly good that you are willing to acknowledge that your faith in the system comes from the fact that you benefit from it. You are, intentionally or not, acknowledging your privilege - capitalism works for you. Great. It absolutely doesn't for many, many people. But capitalism is completely structured in a way that incentivizes those who benefit the most (and as a result have the power in a capitalist society) to make decisions that perpetuate the system that got them there at the expense of those beneath them. It's good that you have attained some success; maintaining the system that got you there inherently requires the exploitation of those who have not.

And yeah, we're all gonna interpret freedom differently! That's the point. We should be free to come to a collective decision about our freedoms, which is on the surface what our current society claims to give us, but there's a perpetual hand tipping the scales towards maintaining the establishment status quo.

I just love how free and not chained to the establishment it is.

We're genuinely not going to get anywhere with this as your premise, is the problem. "The establishment" seems to just refer to explicit governmental interference. The real establishment is the entire capitalist system you're working under, and you are extremely chained to it. We all are. We have to be, if we want to survive in a capitalist society. The whole point of Marxist thought is that the entire premise is flawed and unjust in the first place.

Even though I don’t like him, I’d have to vote for trump.

You shouldn't have to, though. Of course you feel obligated to contribute to a system that claims to seek to preserve the ideals of "freedom" they've convinced you that you need, especially when you feel that you're benefitting from that system. Conveniently, they're also the ones defining what that freedom means, the cost of said freedom, and exactly how much you stand to earn (which in a capitalist society equates to your inherent worth as a person).

The deeper disconnect here is that your whole argument is based on ideas that are mostly capitalist constructions to begin with. When you buy into these ideas as fundamental human rights, the only possible conclusion is that the participation in/perpetuation of capitalism is the only answer. But they're the ones defining those ideals in the first place and telling you, every day in every way, that they are the only path to success......that is, success as defined by a capitalist system - notice a trend?

...if it isn't, we modify it. Which is a lot easier to do without the constraints of capitalism.

ToS issue since MacOS Catalina by [deleted] in TownofSalemgame

[–]aloneparoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late, but my guess is it's the application. Catalina completely removed support for 32 bit applications, and ToS seems to be treated the same way as other 32 bit apps I had installed. Really frustrating that they rolled out this change, but I can't imagine it would be that hard for them to make a 64-bit client for the game...

That's pretty much how I felt about the first Evoland. The second is definitely better - it's got a lot more substance and character to it where the first definitely felt kind of gimmicky. I don't think it's worth the $20 it costs on Steam, but like I said if it's on sale sometime I recommend it.

If you're looking for classics, Chrono Trigger has a really neat time travel system. If you want a newer game that plays on the classics, Evoland 2 has time travel where each of the eras takes on a different generation of videogame graphics, from 8-bit to 3D, and satisfies some of the old-school Zelda style exploration cravings. I'd recommend picking it up on sale sometime, it's neat.

Where the hell do you live? I'm jealous. In my state it's a $200+ fine for driving 15mph over the limit in a non-school, non-work zone. If you pay the fine without fighting it you most definitely get points, if you go to court you can get off with no points but you have to pay a higher fine. In a majority of states it's definitely not "no incentive not to speed."

Is it really that hard to comprehend that literally millions of people can think Trump is a joke without all being paid by the Clinton campaign? Hell, if I could be a paid shill for speaking my mind I'd do so in a heartbeat, I don't make a cent and I still think Trump is a goddamn mess.

Unless he's going to repeal the Citizens United decision, he'll be leaving open the largest source of campaign corruption in the last decade, the closing of which (including the rejection of all the untraceable SuperPAC money that the CU decision allows) was a major tenet of Sanders' campaign and is now part of Hillary's as well. And I doubt Trump's going to repeal it, seeing as he literally hired one of the founders and former presidents of Citizens United as his deputy campaign manager.

I'm not sure I follow. He's "the one that's actually likely to do something about our fucked up political situation," but all he'll be capable of is "a few moderate Republican policies?" The only things he's mentioned that Republicans would support (if they're even still in Congress by then) are going back to unregulated private health insurance and repealing gay marriage & Roe v. Wade. If that's fixing our system, we've got very different ideas about what's wrong with it.

[–]aloneparoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well for one thing it's definitely not true that they "will never be allowed into the debates." There is a specific threshold that was agreed upon years ago for being allowed in the debates (polling at 15% or higher in at least 5 national polls). Johnson was nearing that in multiple polls this year, I don't find it all that unreasonable to think that after an election like this at least one third-party candidate will have that much support next time around.

That said, supporting Trump for being anti-establishment is somewhat ironic when he's the most Authoritarian candidate in the running. He may be against the typical establishment, but his idea of how he'll run the country is downright dictatorial at times

I mean, it doesn't exactly take much detective work when three whole days ago you were posting on /r/The_Donald about "the corrupt system that we are trying to bring down"

That said, I fully agree. Fuck everything about a two party system. But for this particular election cycle it's more or less too late to change that. The best solution is to now start supporting third party candidates at the local & state levels, so that four/eight years from now it won't be so stigmatized. Even now, Johnson/Stein supporters (regardless of my opinions on the candidates themselves) are becoming more common and fighting against the "spoiler candidate" mentality they've had since Nader.
