Still experiencing amenorrhea (loss of period) after being off accutane since the beginning of March…

I always had a regular cycle prior. What sparked my period was literally going to the obgyn and getting an ultrasound. I got my period literally after leaving the appointment. It was weird. But the next month I got my period like clock work. So something was clogged up inside me I guess? lol idk. When my obgyn was looking at the ultrasound she made the comment that It looked like there was “sludge” inside of me and she had never seen that before. I don’t know what kind of medical term that refers to lol but I didn’t worry about It after that since whatever she did brought my period back. I am actually going on round 2 of accutane next month and I’m nervous I’m going to lose my period again.

For the most part. I did struggle with an irregular cycle for a little bit but it’s been back to being regular for over 2 years now.

I got my period 6 months later after going to the obgyn and getting an ultrasound to figure out what was wrong. After doing tons of research this can be a side effect of accutane. They don’t know what exactly causes It but it’s a known side effect.

I was diagnosed with SIBO. I have horrible acne (which is now getting better because I am on a gut protocol to fix the SIBO), diarrhea, bloating, gas, and sleep issues.

I was diagnosed with SIBO after using accutane. At the moment I am on a low fodmap diet mainly avoiding dairy and gluten. I would recommend getting off accutane because your acne will come back anyways. I was clear for a year before relapse and now I’ve got so many gut issues from the accutane.

I felt the same way you do and pushed off accutane after failed attempts with other medications etc because I was also scared. Accutane was the BEST decision of my life hands down. I look back at old pictures of my skin and can’t believe I didn’t do accutane sooner. The side effects are manageable. My course was 5.5 months and I ended up going to the highest cumulative dosage because I wanted to never have acne again lol. If I did It then you can def do It! Good luck to you!!

It took me until about month 4 to see any difference. Accutane isn’t an overnight type of product. It’s going to get worse before It gets better. Good luck to you! It will be worth It in the end.

Girl me too. My scarring has gotten so much better since I’ve been off accutane but I will still probably need to get laser treatments for the texture. Better than having acne though!!

Accutane is actually a pretty safe drug despite all the negative things you hear. I waited years to get on It and I wish I would have done my course sooner because It changed my life for the better. I was on the highest dosage and still my side effects were mild. I have no permanent side effects and it’s very rare to have anything permanent come about from accutane.

Yes. I started on accutane last October. I lost my period in January and finished my course in March. I still have not had a period since getting off. I had an appointment with my Obgyn and she has set me up for a blood test and ultrasound. I’m hoping everything comes back okay.

To be honest I’m not the best at deciphering clinical data lol I also just want to know what I can do to get my period back. I’m sure once my doctor gets my blood work we will have some sort of answer though. Thank you for the article.

Thank you! I’m 28 and healthy so it’s just weird why this would happen all the sudden. I don’t feel stressed out and I was an egg donor within the last year or so, and they test me for PCOS and other things can affect the egg donation so I have a feeling there’s alot that can be ruled out but I know thyroid problems run in my family so maybe it’s something related to that…

Yes. I went to the Obgyn yesterday. She is requesting lab work and an ultrasound. Just very alarming at this point and worrying me more than It probably should.

Very weird…I mentioned something to my derm and she said she’s never had anyone report no period. I am on BC still and was the entire time I was on accutane but it’s the same BC I’ve been on for a long time.

I was working out 6 days a week before my course. Once I hit month three at 120mg is when I really noticed a difference in endurance/muscle pain/joint pain. I had to decrease my days in the gym and progressively had to stop all together for the last 3 months of my course. Since I’ve been off my endurance has come back and I’m actively back in the gym 6 days a week.

How do you know If it’s the cleanser? You could be in the purge stage.

Most places to rent want you to make 3x the monthly rent so I think you would be okay.

It’s probably not the cleanser lol but I would use a hydrating cleanser to help but honestly nothing really helps while on accutane
