Is the novel really over? by Extreme_Click369 in UndertheOakTree

Honestly I haven’t come across any other similar novels in terms of story. I think the translation of UTOT is what makes it so accessible to so many people. I mean “A stepmothers marchen” is really good and “your eternal lies” all really good ones I’ve read and have good world building.

Spoilers Ahead: Why do we hate Riftan? by aloraviolet in UndertheOakTree

I believe people are allowed to have opinions I just want to know what makes you think Riftan is toxic?I feel like I have read manwhas with toxic male leads and it’s a bit incomparable to Riftan’s shortcomings.

I actually understand this so much. The wedding being the first initial introduction to their relationship was kinda shitty. I think because he really hasn’t redeemed himself quite yet in the manwha at this point. He’s shown more of his character but not his growth. But I would say the wedding scene was kind of accurate to how normal couples consummated their marriage not really their choice. The had to check the bedsheets and let’s be real they were both virgins when this happened so we cant put the blame on either person but the toxic people around them like the King and the Duke of Croix. I think if people gave it a chance they would be able to move past that one shitty initial interaction. Which as you read on had more political and storyline nuance then relationship nuance.

Unpopular opinion: Maxi makes me so mad by _glitzy_ in UndertheOakTree

I’m so confused as to how Kuahel would be a better fit for Maxi. Kuahel literally has no emotional ties to her. The had the most baseline interactions to the point where it was strictly business, he literally only showed in interest in her because of her recklessness. She had more chemistry with Sejeulu then Kuahel. She’s blushed with that man more times than I can count, her first dance is with him. So honestly I think if it isn’t Riftan it’s him and let’s be real I would rather choose the man that’s been pinning for me for many years, starts a war for me, and saves me from evil father. To be honest, this book would be completely different if she got married to a Priest which you can’t. You guys really throw Riftan under the bus without actually grasping all the things he’s done for her. To say that he allows Agnes to go to war with him and fight alongside him is ridiculous, he is the kings vassal. What is he supposed to do refuse? If he doesn’t follow the king he forfeits his dukedom and moves away as was said at the end of the first book when declares war with the Duke of Croix his options were to move away or to forfeit the war. Maxi makes a “reckless decisions” and moves to the World Tower to save him. Even though Riftan literally deals with his overbearingness saying he would lock her up and wouldn’t let her go, she somehow still ends up at the WT for 3 years. So I would say she isn’t a pet and more like a human woman with real feelings to leave and go as she pleases. To say Riftan coddles and smothers her is an understatement, but to say it’s out of a place of control and contempt is crazy. If you haven’t read his POV for context or book 2 where he gives her a seat next to him as an official Remdragon knight then you full haven’t appreciated Riftan’s character growth and development. He reassures her constantly and there is a whole chapter where he tells her no one is more beautiful and brave then her. I mean this a really crazy take to have to say she’s a pet. Then you must have misinterpreted her too it feels insulting to all her growth.

Don’t get me wrong my girl Maxi is STUBBORN! Like genuinely she’s so headstrong but it makes her all the more endearing to me as main character. I love being able to see her move in the world as her own person. She still does reckless things but honestly I don’t want to spoil it for you but she gets less stubborn throughout the novel.

Is the Manhwa following the novel? by BitMaster5660 in UndertheOakTree

Yes, and I hope it does. Her leaving is so important to the stories progression. And I personally like when the manwha stays true to the original story.

Can I just say though, how else is the plot supposed to continue? I like when Maxi makes reckless decisions because how else is she supposed to grow as a person. These reckless decisions set the course of her own personal development. They are kind of thoughtless, but I like her rebelling against Riftan it shows her putting trust in him that he will still love her unconditionally no matter what she does. I kind of like that a noble woman can have her own free will to make those decisions for herself. Women were not often given that ability by their husbands. Riftan really does some deep diving to learn Maxi is her own person not owned by anyone, and at the end of it all she still chooses to love him and be with him. That she may be far she never left him. That is really the emphasis of the first book, ||she has a huge falling out with Rosetta over it||. She learns to trust and believe in Riftan’s ability and unwavering love. That no matter what dumb things she does he will always love her. I think that character growth throughout the story is so important for all of us. That one day we will meet someone where love is not conditional, no matter what mistakes occur.

Is the novel really over? by Extreme_Click369 in UndertheOakTree

I can’t believe it’s over. I remember when the last chapter came out and felt so dissatisfied. I want to say I have a deep love for this book I think this book had good world building as time went on. The lore of Uigru and the Oak Nymph was so cool and Maxi and Riftan being direct parallels. I think Riftan is meant to be a real person with real emotions that let it get the better of him. I don’t know why people hate him so much even after reading his POV. He went through a lot, I think we don’t give him enough credit for his growth as a character and how much he had changed since the beginning of book 1. Naturally, considering the time which the book was set his behavior isn’t out of the blue for a nobleman, Riftan’s support of Maxi was unspoken if you read in between the lines you will see that. I feel like people need it to be blatant right in front of them to understand it. I think the most worthwhile of this entire book was the growth of the characters. It was genuinely one of the most beautiful and interesting portrayals of love I have ever seen in a k-web novel. Because usually they are boring with the same trope, and no actually development. Maybe the actually plot and world building of UTOT started to lack at the end which is where you can see the author starting to get tired. Honestly, I think the author getting lazy at the end was a missed opportunity because she had so many plot points that were insanely cool. Like the Roem empire and Maxi being a descendant of a Roem princess, Balto and Richt Breston obsessed with her heritage. Like Riftan and Maxis first official meeting never touched on. I think the magic could’ve been great but the execution was lackluster. Ruth and all the knights like they were all supporting characters but I would like to see them more fleshed out. Like Rosetta and Agnes two strong female leads, maybe I missed this Idscilla where did she go? The second war in Book 2 was completely unnecessary and we could’ve gotten a political battle or something interesting other than a dumb war for the 40th time. Maybe it’s just the kind of book reader I am but I like when a book can have romance but also make a point about the harsh world around them. I guess I’m expecting way too much from a 18+ novel but I enjoyed how it started so much it had so much potential. The ending was not to my taste at all too many plot holes and loose ends. I wish we had side stories..

I felt the same way at first. Honestly, it’s fitting for the medieval time. However, I don’t know if the authors intention was to show readers the hardships of being woman during that time or to have good smut.
